@EddieComeaux @UCLALawReview @DrUJayakumar Elite schools openly telling everyone that they basically do have a preference for wealthy, white students is a step back on so many levels. The inclusion of POC and the consideration of background is needed for equal opportunities in college admissions.

The reading highlights the advantage that white athletes have in the intercollegiate athletics system. Is athletics using this as a loophole to allow for more additions of white athletes rather than athletes of minority? #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

Renowned universities, like Harvard, have a preference for white students that prolong and maintain racial bias at top schools. Moreover, excelling at sports is easier for wealthy, white students who obviously have more money and resources at their disposal.#UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

...athlete under the NCAA you no longer have ownership of that chapter of your life. Of course this is somewhat of an extreme analogy but that's what I kind of felt like upon learning this. #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu #ucr50horn

I feel like not being able to profit off your own image and athletic reputation is like selling a part of your life to NCAA. You no longer have those rights to use your own life experiences to better your life. Essentially, by being a college.. #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu #ucr50horn

Can you imagine what its like generating large amounts in revenue for your school and still not being able to profit off your own name? Athletes in school should have the right to be compensated for their own image. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

Considering that protection of whistleblowers regarding gender inequities was only addressed in Jackson v. Birmingham Board of Education after a MALE girls' basketball coach reached out, doesn't that seem a bit weird? #UCR50 #UCR50horn @abhornUCRedu

@Danielaaa_g7 @KatryaLy I think is has to do with how when you are exposed to more and are able to hear the struggles of others first hand, a completely new perspective can be opened up. I believe the benefits of cross-racial interactions are limitless. #UCR50 #ucr50horn @abhornUCRedu

Interactions between people of different races both within and outside of the classroom are linked to beneficial learning outcomes like critical thinking, cultural understanding, and leadership. #Ucr50 @KatryaLy

@AAlmarez80596 @abhornUCRedu I totally agree with you! I feel like because student-athletes have such busy schedules, it is very possible that they don't have the time to eat as well. This could possibly lead to an eating disorder, which brings other issues up as well. #UCR50 #UCR50horn @abhornUCRedu

I feel that cause athletes, and do need some special commendations because they are representing the college in a sense. As in certain buildings stay open longer for athlete students like dining halls and libraries @abhornUCRedu #UCR50

College athletes' are more prone to be hazed by their teammates using a variety of substances and peer pressure. This kind of "initiation" promotes substance abuse and isolation from the rest of the student body through creating cliques..... #UCR50horn #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

@Ayoung091 @TA_ED50 I totally agree. Competition between athletics and competition between studies are both very common in today's society. And then having to handle both on the daily has got to mean a lotttt of pressure for these athletes. #UCR50 #ucr50horn @abhornUCRedu

Is it fair for student athletes to have the same graduation and academic standards as regular college students when their lifestyles are busier and less time forgiving? #UCR50 #ucr50horn @abhornUCRedu

@danieIaruiz @abhornUCRedu I totally agree with this. I believe that there are other departments that can use sliver of the funding for sports teams, such as research. While sports bring revenue to a school through its entertainment value, wouldn't research against..... #UCR50 #ucr50horn @abhornUCRedu

It’s unfair how much coaches make in comparison to professors and faculty members. They do bring value to campuses but there’s programs/departments that are more deserving of these funds that do more to promote the academic mission of universities.@abhornUCRedu #UCR50 #UCR50horn

When comparing the salaries of college/uni coaches and professors, isn't it unfair that the requirements/ qualifications needed for a professor are much heavier? Additionally, professors address the entirety of a student body, not just athletes....#UCR50 #ucr50horn @abhornUCRedu
