My dearest mentor, Professor Joseph Fewsmith, unfortunately passed away this week. I wrote this little tribute with great pain. But no writing is enough to express my love and gratitude for Joe.

Saw on Chinese social media: A recent Harvard graduate on OPT was told by his employer to go on unpaid leave immediately after Trump’s order banning Harvard from taking international students. This is disgusting.

A true libertarian would support abolishing ICE. A true supporter of the Second Amendment should support defunding the police. But now these people think taxing white billionaires is tyranny but randomly killing dark skinned people is justice.

@uglystamps Yep on that I agree. I think the article is still worth some attention because there seems to be an overestimation of the likelihood of China's economic collapse in the DC. Huang Yasheng's take I think is partially trying to correct that.

@ccclyde_wang Fundamentally this guy is thinking in terms of fungible, utility-maximizing actors within an actual rules-based order. As political scientists, our training should have exposed us to many perspectives that know better than that.
