Bringing about a team of 20 from our church plant to the @ccef conference this year. About 5 are staff, rest are lay members. Last year we had a total of 7 attend. I'm so thankful for this development.

The Lord sees oppression and cares for the oppressed. Jesus comes not just to deliver us from our personal sin, but from the damage of sin. As the church, we are called to be his hands and feet to those suffering from domestic abuse. Our upcoming teaching series, Becoming a Refuge, will equip churches and leadership teams to see rightly, name precisely, and act wisely in cases of domestic abuse. The series will release on April 9, but you can preorder today at ccef.org/becoming-a-ref…. You can also preview the first video lesson for free!

In her upcoming teaching series on responding to domestic abuse, Darby uses a counseling model for understanding relationships where abuse is present, taken from the parable of the tree and the bramble in Judges 9. The tree, which represents Israel, asks for a ruler from a vine, a fig, and a bramble. The vine and the fig respond that they know their own fruitful calling to serve rather than to rule. They don’t need to move to a power that was not theirs, and they don’t vie for power, control, or glory. But the bramble gladly offers to rule over the tree and invites the tree to “take refuge in my shade.” But it is leafless and cannot offer protection in the shade as a low-growing, thorny bush. It cannot protect from the sun, and it chokes out and pierces whatever it surrounds. It’s not a suitable leader for trees, but it grasps for control and destroys, with fire, anything that stands in its way. This is how abusers operate. Instead of protecting and providing refuge, they choke, destroy, and rule with harm. Learn more at ccef.org/becoming-a-ref….
