A new Arctic #landcover map, developed by the ESA Climate Change Initiative's #Permafrost team details Arctic lakes, wetlands, and vegetation at 10m resolution 🗺️🛰️ Key findings: - Wetland & moist tundra (relevant for CH4 emissions, cover 9% & 32% of the region - Wetter regions show higher landcover diversity - Wet, moist and dry landscape types co-occur close to each other north of the tree line - 66% of the Arctic landscape is highly heterogeneous at 1 km scale, which is the scale typically used in land cover and permafrost global scale products climate.esa.int/en/news-events…

Rock #glaciers in the western USA have accelerated 2–3 fold over the past 60-70 years due to increasing air temperatures.
