The black Protestant area fascinates me. I’m a 56-year-old black man. Black people were typically Word-bound in their churches, with a high view of Scripture and a biblical view of sexuality and family. What causes our numbers to be so bad now? Our devolving into matriarchy and our predominant politics.

Evangelicals are the only religious group where a majority do not agree with these 3 statements: Abortion should be legal Gay and lesbian people should be allowed to marry Homosexuality should be accepted by society

The American dream isn’t more money. It’s a Sunday like this: 1. Bible study and hot coffee 2. Family breakfast 3. Take your family to church 4. Family lunch together 5. Play in the yard all day 6. Grill out and eat on the patio 7. Walk to park 8. Bedtime stories and prayer 9. Hang out with wife and plan week And, not stressing about money once. That’s wealth.

This is my Momma’s Bible. I keep it in my nightstand. Almost every page is like this- notes, highlights, passages underlined. She’s been gone almost 28 years. Every now and then, I open her Bible. Inside it, there are pieces of notebook paper with her prayer lists. And my name is on every one. I really miss her.
