I’m not certain, but it’s probably not a good sign when pondering the past, present, and future of your field evokes a 1960s psychedelic rock anthem.

It’s a paradox that educators are drowning in test data, but at the same time we're dying of thirst. There’s a lot that we can learn from Taylor Swift's Eras Tour about the future of collecting test data.

At 15 I would not have been this calm under pressure. Band announced means start ‘er up. She got that mic fixed first and then performed a beautiful gliss. We should be spending more time with kids in the performing arts - imo.
Look around, Look around. Revolution’s happening the next two weeks in Denver, Chicago, Philadelphia, and perhaps even a little in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. When the dust finally settles, educational assessment will be changed forever. Work, work!

It’s a new school year and all around me I see and hear “All kids can learn!” In blog post #300, I explore what that phrase really means.

Not since Sen. Warren sent her sample off to 23andme has a set of test results from Oklahoma caused as much of a ruckus as the "release" of this year's Oklahoma state assessment results. Seriously, Oklahoma? OK.

Student achievement still falls short of pre-pandemic levels. How worried should we be? How much of the “shortfall” is the result of intentional decisions? How much reflects a change in direction? Test scores alone cannot answer those questions.

The conventional wisdom is that educating the whole child is a new concept. We may not have been very good at it, but until recently, we always had a more holistic view than the 3 Rs of what constituted the common core of public education in the US.

“This above all: to thine own self be true.” We have been willing accomplices as others have defined state testing as summative assessment. Before we can move forward with state testing, we have to embrace it as a component of formative evaluation.

We’ve been dealing with artificial intelligence our entire lives – but in human form. Is it really all that different this time around? Computers may complicate the issue a bit, but in the words of Pogo, “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

@AndrewDeanHo@NCME38@AERA_EdResearch@ITC2024Granada@AndrewDeanHo Interesting, but would you first need a sponsor for a lunch at #NCME25? Perhaps it's more important to continue to drive home the message that there is no such thing as a free lunch in educational measurement. Let's go with alcohol at sessions.
I’m trying to imagine @NCME38 and @AERA_EdResearch adopting the European tradition of serving alcoholic drinks during lunch. @ITC2024Granada is setting a high bar (literally?). What say we, members? Can I get a sponsor? #NCME25
Assessment is at a crossroads. Fundamentally, the same one we stood before in 2010. That time we took the more well-worn path and that has made all the difference. Now we have a second chance to take the road less travelled by and see where that takes us.
