@tastybits I was wondering why they disappeared basically overnight. Did not think about the Ukraine thing. Gun nuts are largely irrational but better guns (5.56) getting cheaper meant there was no point in pretending the AK was worth over 2-300.

This is extremely old news, and they have their dates incorrect. This initiative seems to recirculate every 8 months when the news cycle is slow. We announced this initiative around 2020. Hundreds if not thousands of locations have already had their lobby drink stations removed, and it’s not a big deal. We announced this about 15 years prior to the target date. All new McDonald’s built in the last 3 years have this “new” setup. All remodels have had the option for the same setup over the past 4 years. No rationale was given. This isn’t a cost move, as it will cost me $30k to make the change (and I still offer free refills). I can speculate that with digital orders now making up a much bigger part of our business (+30%), it’s much easier to have the fountain behind the counter to fulfill digital and delivery orders. They announced this change around 2020, and it’s been a pull, not a push. I feel they are simply preparing their setup for what they think our business will need in 2036. At first I was very apprehensive when it was originally announced (and reported on 5 years ago), but now it completely makes sense with customer flow. We handle hundreds of delivery orders a day. Having to fill drinks in the lobby or interrupt the drive-thru “robot” is neither fast nor efficient.

@SandyofCthulhu Ive always wanted a buddy cop show starring a hot headed hobbit rookie and his partner, the ent veteran.

So Rings of Power is a flop. They lost more than 60% of their viewers in the first season, after spending a billion dollars. I think part of the problem was that they kept messing with actual beloved characters from Lord of the Rings, instead of telling different stories. Middle Earth is huge. There are lots of things they could do besides pollute the franchise. Here are five ideas that I think would be a LOT more interesting than the Rings of Power. 1) a "Cheers" type comedy set in the Prancing Pony in Bree. 2) the adventures of Bill the Pony and how he got back to the Shire. You KNOW that story's fire. 3) a mystery show about Sam's old gaffer solving crimes in the Shire. Called "Mordor, He Wrote". 4) an action show about a team of warriors patrolling the north to protect Eriador from bandits, trolls, orcs, wargs, stone giants, and so forth. It would be titled, "Walker, Thangorodrim Ranger" 5) the hijinks and strategems of the two blue wizards as they try to thwart the machinations of darkness in distant lands. Kind of a buddy action-comedy.
