Q: how do you know Belift didn’t kick him out and it was Heeseung’s decision?
In the beginning, I was very opposed to Heeseung’s departure and felt great sadness and confusion too. I initially thought it was a forced decision by the company also. After taking time off and reflecting on it logically, I realized it could not be a one-sided decision.
The solo contract signing is the key evidence. If Belift was forcing Heeseung out against his will, why would he sign a solo contract with them at all? The fact that he negotiated and signed a solo deal with the same label suggests this was a mutual agreement, not a forced exit. A label forcing someone out would more likely result in that person leaving the label entirely or going to a competitor.
Instead, Heeseung stayed with Belift Lab but shifted his contract structure. That only makes sense if both parties agreed.
Also the label couldn’t technically kick him out without cause. Enhypen members’ contracts run until 2027. Belift can’t unilaterally terminate a member from the group just because they want to push him out. They’d need contractual cause (breach of contract, violation of terms, etc.). The fact that they negotiated a solo contract for Heeseung at all suggests all parties worked within the system legally. No trust was lost in the process.
“The time we have spent together until now has been so precious that it can’t be expressed in words.Because of that, we respect and support the choice and new beginning of Heeseung hyung, who has shared that time with us.” - Enhypen
“Those times will remain as some of the brightest moments of my life. I will never forget those moments, and I want to continue being someone who supports ENHYPEN more than anyone else.
As I shared the results of the work I’ve been doing with the company, we spent a long time discussing with many people about the best way to present it. After thinking deeply about it for a long time, I made a big decision to follow the direction the company suggested so that I can return to ENGENE with an even better version of myself.” - Heeseung
Few key takeaways from this is 1) they have respect for each other. 2) Heeseung’s vision for a “better version” of himself is as a soloist.
Most people got held up by the “follow the direction of the company” part. Knowing Heeseung’s personality, his sense of duty for the team was probably in great conflict with his desire to be a soloist. Rather than forcing Heeseung to be in a situation that no longer aligned with his dreams or the rest of the team’s, they gave him the ok to let go.
Enhypen also respected Heeseung’s decision. They’re working hard to bridge the gap and to make sure the fans are not too sad. In addition, their strength and resolve probably gives Heeseung great comfort as well. I believe that all parties wished for each other’s success and the ability to pursue the work they love.
Heeseung already gave 6 years of his career to Enhypen. He only has 3 years left before military. Time lost cannot come back. If solo work is ultimately where his heart lies, he shouldn’t have to compromise on it just to appease fans. He didn’t make the decision lightly. He made it as an artist who knows what he wants for his career. He took a bold step for his future that is not easy or safe, but felt right for him.
Belift might have handled the transition poorly. However, no matter the execution, it did not change the initial decision.
Our job as fans should not be trying to control Heeseung’s path or guilt him into returning to the group. His vision for his long-term life as an artist is different from Enhypen’s now, and that’s okay. It’s more than okay.
Supporting and loving Heeseung and Enhypen means accepting and respecting their choices.
This is their one and only life after all, and they should be the ones to make the call.
