Let's get one thing straight. If people are spending their own time, for zero money, creating content, often inspired by your tastes, your prompts, and this fandom you do not get to act entitled to it. You don't have to like it. No one is forcing you to read it. But the moment you start mocking, insulting, or publicly shaming creators, you crossed out of "opinion" territory and straight into bullying.
Not everyone is trying to be the next literary genius. Not everyone is writing to impress you. Fanfiction is not a service industry, and we writers are not vending machines that exist to deliver perfectly customized content on demand. If something isn't for you, close the tab and move on. It really is that simple.
And let’s be honest, if your only contribution to fandom is sitting back and tearing down people who are actually creating, that says far more about you than it ever will about them. Criticism without respect isn't intelligence. It isn't honesty. It's just noise, and usually it's rooted in bitterness, insecurity, or entitlement.
If you have real, constructive feedback, take it to the writer directly or express it like an adult. Explain what didn't work without acting superior, cruel, or dismissive. Public humiliation is not "being real." It's being lazy and mean.
So maybe before you hit "post" on that nasty comment, ask yourself what you're actually adding. Because these people are creating out of love, passion, and joy. And if that bothers you so much, the problem isn't the fiction. It's you.
