@Warlustgg BF2042 OST is fine on its own, just not for a Battlefield game. I could see some content creators rediscover it in 10 years, making videos like "how is this amazingly eerie ambient track locked behind a failed battlefield game" or something 😁

@ManacasterBen @SandyofCthulhu Not anymore. The newer Wolfenstein games were all released completely uncensored, violence and symbols intact after the USK (basically the German ESRB) changed their stance regarding "not even looking at a game if it contains NS imagery". Now they're rated like any other game.

@SandyofCthulhu Laws in Germany prohibit displaying the symbols of that era outright, regardless of the reason, if I recall. It's not one of those "protected by free speech" things.

I was not at id Software for Wolfenstein but of course heard plenty about it. One fun fact is that the guys at id told me they did the voice overs for the enemy soldiers. (Mainly Romero & Tom Hall I believe). But they literally knew nothing of German, so their words were completely mangled. On a trip to Germany in 1993, the number one question I got from German fans was, "What are the SS guys saying when they see you?" Of course, the answer is supposed to be "Schutzstaffel!" but Romero (or Hall) muffed it up so the Germans couldn't get it. They did hear "Mein Leben!" loud and clear though and thought it was hysterically funny. Which I agree. The Germans told me that Wolfenstein was difficult to get there except via piracy, because of all the Nazi imagery. I guess it's like the evangelicals who see the demonic imagery in Doom and assume the game is pro- instead of anti-Hell. One of my favorite tasks I got assigned at id was to do the secret levels for Doom 2, which were of course based on Wolfenstein, so I got to place nazi soldiers and Wolfenstein textures. That was fun.
