Some are looking for short-term shelter during their emigration, others arrive urgently and do not know what to do next.
Trans activist Zhenya Morris miraculously avoided arrest for her anti-war activities; she fled Russia immediately after the security forces visited her apartment. There was no plan or destination, the task was simply to leave the country as quickly as possible:
"When I left Moscow, I had 3,000 rubles (around 30 euros) in my pocket, I didn't even know where I was going or what I was going to do. I just understood that it was impossible to stay in Russia, especially in such a situation. I just left with the thought: whatever happens, so be it.
I learned about the shelter from "Center T".
I stayed there for a little over a month, which made it significantly easier for me to adapt to a new country."
In a month of living in the shelter, Zhenya was able to save up for renting a place in Yerevan, and volunteers helped her figure out the nuances of emigration. Six months later, the activist received a visa to France.
Trans girl M. left her homeland in a hurry and without any preparation. When she arrived in Yerevan, she had no idea how her future life would turn out:
"Once a week we had calls where we discussed the current problem and possible solutions, and what kind of help I needed. I was also offered to contact the shelter psychologist, but I did not need it".
M. spent a month in the shelter and decided on her further plans for emigration:
"They told me how to apply for a humanitarian visa, how to receive medical assistance in the country, where and how to get a bank card, etc.
I was offered application for a refugee status, but I refused.
In my case, I simply saved up money from work to rent an apartment".
