Everybody is saying "build an email list" so you don't depend on Google. Well, I did, and nobody clicks on my links. Maybe I need more people for more accurate analytics, but 2 people clicking over to my blog is not going to replace my Google traffic 😂😂

How I generated 2,300 local newsletter subscribers and sold my first ad in 14 days: 1. Signed up for beehiiv 2. Created 2 ad creatives 3. Spent $50 on Meta ads 4. Created landing page based on ad copy 5. Spent another $50 6. Got signups for $0.50 7. Realized people want the content 8. Started surveying audience 9. Realized high quality people are subscribing 10. Reached out to a friend that does cold email 11. He scraped local business directory 12. He sent emails to 300 local business owners 13. Got 9 interests 14. First deal done in 12 days 15. All in all, spent $1,100 on ads so far

From 2,000 to today, I mainly focused on social media. First I grew on Instagram, and then I found success on Linkedin. I tried to build a personal brand, connecting with potential subs and sponsors. That’s helped me a great deal with nurturing sponsorship opportunities.

Media is interesting. No one wants to buy advertising space. They need to buy advertising space because they don't fully understand their target customer. Media companies should commoditize customer understanding. Not eyeballs.
