Congress has eliminated $2.2M of annual support for @HoustonPubMedia. HPM has launched a $4.4M campaign to offset the losses over the next 2 years to sustain their trusted journalism, educational programming, and emergency alerts. I support and stand with HPM.

Generative AI should have us questioning our understanding of the value of humans in writing. We might need to think about the relationship between writing and being human... metaphysically speaking. link.medium.com/74xBzb6aKAb

By ERCOT's projections, when demand is peaking at over 80GW at 5pm tomorrow, wind and solar will conveniently be at near-peak generation, providing nearly 20% of the power on the grid.

“The truth is, people don’t want to run their own servers, and they don’t want to have to write code every time they buy a loaf of bread, so ‘centralized’ services will inevitably arise to make web3 actually work for regular people.” — @profgalloway marker.medium.com/the-false-prom…

I've mostly thought of masks as a way to avoid infecting others. Interesting study suggesting that it might improve your own outcomes if you do become infected as well (particularly in the winter). economist.com/science-and-te…

@drewgriz Oh interesting. I’m not sure how the sensors for our solution worked. Considering the audience it probably didn’t need to fidelity required by a plant operator or even a trading desk.

@cesarislaw Well Genscape has data on how much each plant is putting out in MW via a very cool method of just putting inductive sensors under the transmission wires. Although I've heard that even that data is being altered retroactively, which is a little shady.

Have any reporters looked into which power plants are down and actually calling them directly to find out what's causing the outages and when they might be back online? If ERCOT won't answer these questions seems like a no-brainer.

@drewgriz Yeah. We did a project years ago that got up to the minute plant data to the executives of a company on the generation side. Data infrastructure has been in place for years. Would be curious to know if their are statutory limits on ERCOT sharing that data from the generators.

@cesarislaw Yeah the problem is everyone taking ERCOT's word for it (which, setting aside their trustworthiness, is hardly any detail at all) instead of going down to the plant level to see which ones specifically are down, and why, and what needs to happen to get them back online

@drewgriz Challenge is that we have a decentralized voting system. Every state runs its own elections creating 50 (56 if you count DC and territories) unique mixes of partisan incentives.

It's not hard to imagine a system that not only makes voter fraud harder, but makes voting even easier, but that would definitely have to be a new federal system with staff and budget.

Here's a crazy question: has anyone thought about voter verification tools that aren't obstacles to voting? I'm thinking of things that could, if not get Rs on board with a Voting Rights Act, at least make clear that they only oppose it because it makes it harder for them to win.
