One of the most awkward, uncomfortable TV interviews in British history 🫣 Back in 2003 on The Frank Skinner Show, Matthew Kelly sat down to promote a play… and instead turned the tables on Frank. Kelly directly confronted him over “horrible gags” Skinner and @Baddiel had made on Baddiel & Skinner Unplanned while Kelly was under police investigation for historical sex abuse allegations (which were later dropped with no charges). Kelly, clearly still raw from the ordeal, asked Frank straight up if he was “proud” of the jokes and whether he’d repeat them with him sitting right there. To be fair to Frank, he handled it really well. He stood his ground, didn’t dodge or over-apologise, explained it was topical comedy with no malice, and even repeated the jokes to Kelly’s face on air! 😱 It’s actually very compelling TV, but you can feel the atmosphere in the studio, the silence, the squirming, and the awkward laughter.
