“This increase in numbers is driven by abortions provided via telehealth, which rose to 20% of all abortions…Since providers started offering medication abortion via telehealth under shield law protections, on average around 9,200 people per month in states with bans”
Society of Family Planning@SocietyFP

New #WeCount data released today. The average monthly number of abortions continues to increase slightly, a testament to the continued and growing need for abortion care across the country. societyfp.org/research/wecou…

Criminalizing masks forces those with disabilities or medical conditions, as well as their families and loved ones, to have to decide whether to segregate themselves from public life or endanger their health and even lives. Our statement:

These mask bans threaten public health, personal freedom, and open an avenue for discrimination. I mask in public to protect my family and my patients. Don’t let this happen in Nassau County, New York, or anywhere!

UPDATE: Here's the language of the proposed mask ban bill in Nassau County, NY. It's bad! While health is mentioned, the ban would apply to public places and some private properties, and gives police power to ask anyone to remove their mask.

BREAKING: #SCOTUS just ruled in the case on mifepristone. This means patients around the country can continue getting access to the affirming abortion care they need! As physicians, we're so relieved that this safe and essential medication will remain accessible.

At least one in six abortions in the U.S., around 14,000 a month, were administered through telemedicine, with clinicians prescribing mail-order abortion pills after online consultations, the first nationwide count of telehealth abortions found. nyti.ms/42ZzmfC

Our community has known that anti-science politicians never intended on stopping at banning abortion. This represents interference in personal health care decisions, & exposes anti-abortion intentions to continue to restrict bodily autonomy, no matter the decisions you’re making.

A Republican senator blocked quick passage of a bill that would establish federal protections for in vitro fertilization and other fertility treatments in the wake of a ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court that frozen embryos should be considered children. nyti.ms/49Nf6QG

ICYMI: Anti-abortion politicians are targeting Texas abortion funds and PRH's Board Chair Elect @dr_moayedi. Why? Because they're fighting to protect the privacy of the patients they care for and the donors who believe in showing up for people who need abortions.

All NY families – especially Black and brown families – have the right to be healthy, happy, and whole, without fear of test-and-report surveillance. We have the power to build better. NYS must pass Informed Consent (A.109/S.320) now! #ReimagineSupport #SupportNotSeparation

NY is grappling with racial disparities in healthcare and reckoning with practices that erode patients’ trust in the very system tasked with providing care & support. “Test and report” drives fear in engaging in prenatal care & puts families at risk of traumatic separation.

A drug test is NOT a parenting test. A positive drug test does not equal abuse or neglect, yet hospitals still target Black mamas for non-consensual drug tests and report positive results to the family regulation system. This is a violation of people’s dignity and autonomy.

Black and Brown folks are targeted for non-consensual drug tests while pregnant and during labor and delivery, a particularly special and crucial time for bonding. Early and ongoing separation can cause trauma that spans generations.

A positive drug test often doesn't lead to any referral to care or drug treatment, but yet hospitals routinely report positive drug tests to family regulation system agencies (CPS). But NY & federal law make clear that a positive test alone ≠ harm & doesn't require a report!
