A fast start led to a historic finish for #7 Columbus Grove who earned the program's first State Championship in girls basketball with a 65-46 victory #2 Rootstown to claim the Division 6 title. The Bulldogs (27-2) exploded out to a 22-6 advantage through one-quarter of play by forcing 7 turnovers and riding the hot hand of Kendall Palte who scored 10 of her 14 points in the frame. The Rovers (27-2) battled back in the 2nd quarter, outscoring CG 13-11 in the stanza as they began to settle in on the game's biggest stage. Giveaways would continue to plague Rootstown, however, losing the turnover battle 25-11 and struggled to keep the Bulldogs out of the paint. With 4 players in double-figures scoring, Columbus Grove extended their cushion to 51-32 entering the 4th quarter with a 36-8 differential in paint points. The Rovers would chip away at the deficit over the next five minutes, but clutch free throw shooting and timely buckets would seal a Bulldogs victory. Lauryn Auchmuty led Columbus Grove with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists in her final high school game, while freshman Aubrey Schroeder added 14, and Nicole Nesby put up 13 pts, 16 rebs, 4 stl, and 4 blocks. Rootstown was paced by Kelsey Bittecuffer with 12 pts in her last game, with Elliott Smallfield chipping in with 10. This State Championship highlight is presented by @maumeebayturf @dannysrossford
