The latest NVIDIA discourse is so funny to me because not too long ago companies cared a lot about not over hiring and trying to keep labor costs down bc swe’s are giga expensive. Teams were trimmed down and through the 2010s we slowly had to do more with less.
Now it’s expected to spend an extra 50% of their salary on tokens??? and it barely makes a dent in productivity. The PROMISE of replacing swe’s is being sold and everyone is buying bc of FOMO
In reality we need a lot more time focusing on improving the core of software work with LLMs that actually end up with a productivity boost bc right now it’s all just shipping vibe slop because of the fear of being left behind
Imagine saying “everyone should be spending double on swe’s” instead of “everyone should be spending double on tokens”
Like it feels that people would scoff at hiring more people but are totally fine with incinerating money on tokens
AI companies know this and they are charging like they replace human labor bc that’s a shitload of money if they own the labor market. “infinite money hose”-level money.

also since when is vibe coding a good argument for killing SaaS?
it was always possible to self host an open source version of w/e you wanted
it’s just usually not as good and is annoying to maintain so you end up just paying a service for saving you the time.
Like instead of self hosting supabase myself I can just pay them? Almost like I’m paying for software as a service?
AI still going to be a net increase in self hosting and vibe coding internal tools but highly doubt SaaS is going anywhere anytime soon

I’m gonna lose my fucking shit everyone is so delusional over AI
what the fuck makes you think SWEs haven’t been trying SINCE THE INVENTION OF SOFTWARE to automate our job?
if I could hand the keys to every dipshit boss I’ve had in the past I would. Let them drive themselves off the cliff instead of doing it for them.
turns out regular people are just too retarded and need we autists regardless
and we autists are too autistic to speak to normies in order to take their money
you need the retards and autists working together

keep in mind 99% of people have no idea how software works
out of that 1% only a fraction of those work high level swe jobs
out of those high level engineers, 80% are mid at best
so I don’t trust most engineers saying AI is better than them and will take over
my brother in christ of course the AI is better than you, you are dogshit!
especially true if they’re baiting retweets from their CEO
If you haven’t been dreading the tech debt apocalypse then you are not on the jedi side of this. God I hope I’m wrong and all of the vomited code slop can be magically refactored by opus-6.7 but if that’s not the case then jeeeeeez

the fallout from gen AI on codebases will be absolutely hilarious I can’t wait
I can see it now on the local news:
What started out as an idea, quickly flourished into an online store.
“I used lovable to make it and it worked amazing at first”
It was very amazing, especially for Jim, Founder and CEO of pdftoslop.com, had zero software knowledge. Part of a trend called: “vibe-coding”, where a user without any technical knowledge uses AI to make products like PDFToSlop, a reality.
“No! The text needs to look red like the other text” (Jim yells at his MacBook Air)
That was, until October 2025, when something strange happened.
“All of a sudden I started losing access to everything and my site was completely broken”
Not knowing where else to turn, Jim called upon the ‘Repo Janitors of California’, a startup specializing in cleaning up “vibe-coded” software.
We sat down with Ron, founder of Repo Janitors.
“When did you first realize codebase janitorial services would mean big business?”
“Well the company I used to work for had a CEO who got really into cursor and shipped a ton of AI generated code without review which constantly broke production systems and caused everyone to quit and the company to shut down. I thought I could start a business to stop that from happening.”
Experts say generative AI has been responsible for roughly 200 billion hours of ‘technical debt’, a term used to describe writing worse code that can be released quicker but must be “paid off” with better code later.
A trend that has suicide rates among software engineers up 24% from the same time in 2020. The reason most cited in their suicide notes? “Bad Vibes”
“I want to kill Sam Altman and then myself” said Bob, lead engineer at PDFToSlop.com.
