Grand View University announced today the departure of Head Wrestling Coach Nick Mitchell, after a historic tenure that has set the standard for excellence in collegiate wrestling. After 17 seasons leading the Vikings, Mitchell, who is the winningest coach in NAIA wrestling history, led the Vikings to 13 national titles, 157 All-Americans, and the longest dual win streak in collegiate history, will step away from coaching to pursue an opportunity outside of collegiate athletics. @KansasNextTopic @baschamania I can think of two guys in last 15 years that fit this description of being kicked out of a d1. 1 of them was removed from the team the day we found out he wasn’t on the right path and the other went on to be a super successful wrestler, person and coach.

Darrion Caldwell pinning Brent Metcalf was a major major story 17 years (how) ago. Lost in the importance of a win that big for DC was the hilarious officiating mechanics used to call the pin. I have probably watched this clip 50 times and so much of the focus is looking at Metcalf's shoulders you don't realize the ref is basically on top of Brent with a serious amount of physical contact before calling the pin. I mean he got up in there 🤣🤣An officiating "no-no." That combined with the fact that Metcalf's entire back was on Caldwell's chest make this a pretty hysterical pinfall call, all things considered.
