Cha has won numerous accolades. In 2018, he won the Asia Artist Award for Rising Star and was named one of GQ Korea's Men of the Year, and in 2019, he won the Soompi Award for Breakout Actor and was named the male "Hot Instagrammer"! In 2021, he won the Asia Artist Award for Emotive actor and was 17th on Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list! In 2023, Cha was on Forbes 30 Under 30 and ranked 11th on Gallup Korea's Television Actor of the Year list! In March 2025, he donated ₩100 million to the Korean Red Cross after Korea's largest wildfire, expressing his condolences to those affected and gratitude to firefighters and relief workers, with the funds directed toward recovery efforts, emergency aid, shelters, and support for displaced residents. His fans organized the global “Happy Kids Happy Eunwoo” charity project in March 2025 for his birthday, aiding vulnerable children and families across 14 countries!
Cha Sun Woo has come so far. From a rookie idol, known mainly for his visuals, he rose to stardom with ASTRO, transitioning effortlessly into a top actor, starring in hit dramas, and successfully launched his own solo music career, earning international recognition as the first Asian Global Icon at the MTV VMAs in Japan. Hello, this is Cha Eunwoo.
I sincerely bow my head in apology for causing many people worry and disappointment due to various recent matters related to me.
Through this incident, I am deeply reflecting on myself and questioning whether my attitude toward fulfilling my duty as a citizen of the Republic of Korea particularly my obligation to pay taxes was sufficiently strict and responsible.
Over the past several days, I have spent time reflecting, thinking carefully about what I should say first so that even a small part of my remorse could be conveyed to those who were hurt because of me.
I worried that a long explanation might sound like an excuse or cause further fatigue, but I ultimately came to believe that it was my duty to speak directly and offer my apology regarding this matter.
As I write this, I have just finished my daily duties within my unit. Although I am currently serving in the military, this was by no means an intentional choice to avoid this controversy. Last year, I reached a point where I could no longer postpone my military enlistment and therefore enlisted before fully concluding the tax audit process.
However, since this misunderstanding also stems from my own shortcomings, I feel a deep sense of responsibility. If I were not serving as a soldier, I would want to personally visit everyone who may have been affected by this issue and bow my head in apology. With that same sincerity, I am writing these words now.
For the past 11 long years, despite being someone with more shortcomings than strengths, I have been able to stand in the undeserved position of “Cha Eun-woo” today thanks to the boundless love and support you have given me. Because of that, even if I cannot properly repay all those who trusted and supported me, as well as the many people I have worked with, I feel indescribably sorry for causing such great hurt and exhaustion.
I will faithfully comply with all future tax-related procedures. In addition, I will humbly accept the final decision made by the relevant authorities and fully take responsibility in accordance with that outcome.
Going forward, I will hold myself to even stricter standards and live with a greater sense of responsibility, striving to repay the love I have received.
Once again, I sincerely apologize for causing concern.

Why do I feel like people are trying to set up cha eunwoo because it’s the perfect opportunity and he’s been so successful and now he’s in the military so he cannot even defend himself and they’re doing these allegations on him of tax evasion. I believe in him until I get proof.

And like, we’re talking abt the same guy here who, as a rookie, said he would pay for the video camera his team member broke (it was another prank played on him— my poor shayla 😭) when he could’ve just easily said nope i didn’t break it so i won’t be paying for it esp when it was hinted that he’d have to accept work in china to cover the cost 🙂

I remember during MITH how Eunwoo wouldn’t even look Rain in the eye bc he was mad at how badly he was treating the rookies (it was a prank). He even made an effort to comfort the trainees and gave them tips on how to improve when their morale was clearly low.
Time and time again he’s shown us how he chooses to do the right thing, even when it means going against his superiors. If there’s one person whose moral compass I trust, it’s Eunwoo.
