the usage of 内 gives this sentence a much more poetic & personal feel. 心の内 also puts more nuance on idea of hidden/true feelings & works best in their context.
why would it matter that 心の中 and 心中 have similar kanji, if 中 was used you'd be asking the opposite ijbol

The whole “shinju” (心中) theme was actually brought up by a completely different shinobi from the Cloud. People say Naruto used the phrase 心の内 (“in my heart”) in this dialogue as a hint toward shinju. But there’s also the phrase 心の中 (“in my heart” too),

the symbolism and imagery used for Sasuke & Naruto, both individually and intertwined, is so incredible and so much deeper than a lot of fans realize. it's literally next to impossible for Kishimoto to have written AND drawn all of that by accident

"sasuke is selfish" is such a surface lvl take on his character & story. its funny cause it shows that u either lack critical thinking or hold a harmful belief about self-harm and suicide
99% chance its the former, bet u wouldn't even know how his story has suicide/sh subtexts
