U of Oregon student journalists at The Emerald are in the middle of College Media Madness, currently ranking No. 4. They want to send students an investigative reporting conference. I donated! The Emerald’s trying to reach 100 donors this year. dailyemerald.com/donate

🚨Oregon, we NEED to talk about student test scores🚨 New data from the 2022-2023 school year is in. It's not pretty. Other states are making progress at helping students recover core academic skills, post pandemic. Oregon kids? They're stuck. (1/7) oregonlive.com/education/2023…

🤞that the PDX teacher strike resolves in the next few days. Before it does, I wanted to highlight the voices of special education families, whose kids have really struggled with the disruption to routine and consistency. oregonlive.com/education/2023…

Big class sizes a sticking point in Portland teacher strike: See which elementary schools have many, few or no such classes. We make it easy for you to see biggest, smallest classes in PPS plus the size of each class in any elementary school oregonlive.com/education/2023…

Portland strike update: Per *district* math, the 2 sides are still $200M+ apart. Biggest cost differential now is class size. PAT proposal=$100M+352 new teachers. PPS=$4.5M to lower ratios. Way closer on salary+planning time. oregonlive.com/education/2023…

I remember my high school’s teacher strike fondly. It lasted 21 days, and because nobody was telling us anything or talking to us, we spent that time putting together an unauthorized issue of the school paper that we handed out when kids came back.
