On July 20, 1948, five soldiers from the IDF's Oded Brigade abducted four women from the Shia village of Hunin, who had left the village to harvest the fields. Two of the soldiers, brothers Daniel and Avraham Bachar, sought to avenge the death of their cousin, who had been killed two days earlier in battle elsewhere. The soldiers took the women towards the military camp, and on the way decided to rape them. After the rape, they murdered the women, the youngest of whom was about 15 years old, and left their bodies lying in the field. A few days later, other soldiers from the battalion were sent to search for the bodies, found three of them and buried them in a shallow grave. The fourth was found a few days later in a state of decomposition and her body was burned. Unusually for this kind of cases, several of the soldiers were arrested and put on trial. When Israeli newspapers reported about the trial, they mentioned only the murder, never the rape. After a legal farce lasting more than two years, which included two military trials and one civilian trial, the last two defendants were acquitted.
