Keep calm and debunk the myths. Read how the digital exam and learner equity debates make many feel like Yesterday's Man. How should the sector bring everyone on the digital journey? open.substack.com/pub/thebusines…

Pity those unwilling to improve assessment equity, access, and fairness via digital. They seek comfort with ‘tech bro’, calligraphy, and nostalgia arguments. Keeping learners with no agency and voice to struggle every day against manuscript martyrs with complexity phobia.

The introduction of on-screen exams could widen attainment gaps between disadvantaged students and their peers, warns @EducEndowFoundn in response to Ofqual consultation tes.com/magazine/news/…

A pity the social media debate is conflated with digital exams assessment. A completely ring-fenced and separate sector, that UK has led for over 25 years. But he was great in Croupier and Monsieur Spade, so I appreciate his experience and insight of high-stakes environments!

Final chance to write to the consultation to try and stop the government taking school exams online. This is the address to write to. consultations@ofqual.gov.uk And here’s what I wrote.

@LauraTrottMP A conversation with Britain's rapidly growing digital assessment industry, successfully exporting for three decades, is sorely needed. Recommend speaking with the e-Assessment Association, celebrating 20 years in 2027. e-assessment.com

When it comes to exams, we should follow the evidence. Research shows writing by hand supports memory & deeper learning. With growing concerns about screen time affecting attainment, moving high stakes exams to devices makes little sense without proof it improves outcomes.

Up to half of school exams ‘will be on screen within a decade’, says board chief. Advocates say digital assessments will make the system fairer, but critics fear students will lose writing skills. ✍️ @RSylvester1 bit.ly/4rWqjHT

Sadly, celebs know and understand absolutely nothing about exam production and delivery. And even less about the decades-long on-screen exam sector that UK once led. Celebs also absently forget the learners currently locked out by paper delivery.
Hugh Grant@HackedOffHugh

If GCSE’s move online it will be a catastrophe. Citing “preparing for exams” schools will dump what little remains of books and pens and stuff our poor addicted children even further down the internet at great cost to their education, mental health and safety. @ofqual

@MathsNot “At the moment there is no regulation.” Ofqual and its predecessors have been regulating on-screen exam delivery at scale since 2004.
