The main reason why mending is so good is because for some insane reason naming and repairing cost levels and contribute to the anvil use calculation that caused Too Expensive! to be a thing
This can only work if anvils are fixed too

I've come around to the realization that Elytras are by and large one of the worst additions to Minecraft because they entirely eliminated a pillar of base building (especially on servers) by making literally every other transportation method redundant once you get one
