I’m no political strategist, but if I had to thematize a center-left rhetorical strategy, it would be something like “No More Liars or Losers in DC” Play up the “we know how to fix things” angle; that the avg American could prosper if it weren’t for all these morons and crooks breaking shit
Nate Silver@NateSilver538

The center-left is having some real challenges. 1) D primary electorates are becoming more left-wing 2) Many voters see the center-left as synonymous with the D "establishment" when many on the center-left would reject that framing. So I have a few questions for the center-left.

@hopes_revenge I don’t get how people can think of AI as transformative technology while somehow expecting it to be presented as a mundane product in a hype-based super-cycle. At some point, we must contend with the graves, should we not?

@ZyMazza I didn’t think that the ad was scary, it’s awe-inspiring. Artistically, semiotically, awe is just hard to yield without invoking some intimation on a viceral level. Like a mountain from the base versus the summit.

the anthropic video is compelling and honest and that’s good . most of the discourse gestures towards the fact that you’re not really supposed to be sincere . you’re supposed skillfully manage public perception — by any means . maybe this won’t work for the field of ai?

@ZyMazza Those parts? Absolutely not, those are on the dread side of the spectrum. The ones showing people connecting, artificial organs, and animals thriving lean on the sublime side of awe. The text itself comes directly from survey answers of what people expect and fear from AI.

their goal is to frighten. Dario and others at Anthropic have a religious conviction that AI is the eschaton of humanity. They are dismayed that others do not share their faith. They alternate between a fire-and-brimstone and loving approach to proselytize their beliefs

i really want to know who is directing this sort of stuff. and what is the goal? bc right now it feels like the direction is continuously scattered but the goal is always trending towards “let’s be unintelligible at best and absolutely frightening at worst”
