I’m a fan of Felix now He touches on a lot of points that I’ve mentioned before re Singapore, namely: - We are paid to optimise, not innovate - We celebrate wins, but sh*t on losses - Singapore is a great country to run operations, not R&D labs The outcome of that is a service focused nation that is probably great at driving things from 90 to 100 Not 0 to 1 Not 1 to 10 Not even 10 to 50 We only do great when there’s already a playbook Now, granted, we are a small nation and every mistake could be alot more costly I do wish we get to see more innovation but truth of the matter is that capital already realised that Singapore isn’t the place for start ups Start up VCs are already exiting APAC with funds like Granite not even deploying much in the region Private Equity are only focused on late stage infrastructure businesses now - they know money in Singapore isn’t to be made not in the innovation, but operations I do hope that we get to see more risk taking, more innovation, more fun I love Singapore but objectively, we are not even close to America when it comes to reinventing the wheel

Why I left Singapore for SF. 🇺🇸 Last week, I made a video telling Singaporeans to stop romanticizing leaving the country. It went viral. The media picked it up and sparked a national debate. The top comment everywhere: “Then why did you leave?” Fair. Singapore is the best-run city to live in. I didn’t leave for lifestyle. I left to learn what we’re rarely taught: how to take real risks. In SF, failure isn’t shameful. People quit great jobs, build something “crazy,” watch it flop, then start again... no gossip, no permanent stain. In Singapore, one failure can follow you, so we play it safe. I wanted to live where betting on yourself is the norm. When everyone around you is building something wild, you start thinking bigger too, not because they’re smarter 💀, but because nobody tells you to be “realistic.” I needed to live somewhere where betting on yourself is the default, not the crazy option. And it rubs off on you. But here's the part I don't say to the media. Singapore already the infrastructure most countries would kill for. The one thing we don't have yet is a culture that celebrates the person who tried and failed instead of judging them. That's what I'm here to learn. And when I've learned it, I want to spread it to the world. This isn't "US vs Singapore." I just believe the best version of any is one where more of us are allowed to dream big. Alas, America is the arena to be in.

@enggirlfriend either use an external tool to pre-generate the visual aesthetics (font, color theme etc matters more) or compile a list of websites “look” to take inspiration from, then let codex settle the layout, design etc. the results will be quite good

the biggest lie our generation bought is that 9-5 corporate is the “safe” path in reality, when market is tough, especially with the current AI boom, you’re the first line item to be cut when market is booming, it’s the C-level, shareholders, and early risk-takers that capture the upside at most, you get a year-end bonus and a “thank you for your hard work” email you carry the downside of unemployment risk based on market cycles and company performance but you don’t carry the upside when things go well pretty much, finding a job is becoming one of the worst R/R positions to be in right now

After a few weeks in SF, I’ve learned that “coffee chat” can mean: fundraising recruiting dating competitive intelligence cofounder search figuring out if you’re useful the scariest part is that they usually don’t tell you which one.
