The Memphis Grizzlies want to unload talented but troubled Ja Morant. But the Grizzlies are acutely aware his trade value is low. As such, an NBA person told me at the recent pre-draft camp that the Grizzlies may hold hold on to Morant, attempt to rehab his reputation and then trade him at next season’s deadline in February. If that is the plan, could the Grizzlies, with the third coverall pick in the June draft, pass on big men Cameron Boozer or Caleb Wilson and take Morant’s replacement, someone like Darius Acuff Jr.?

If the Timberwolves pursue a deal for Ja Morant, a trade package would likely include Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo’s expiring contract, and small draft compensation. A third team could also enter the framework if the Grizzlies are unwilling to absorb the remaining two years on Randle’s contract ($33.3M, $35.8M PO). The Wolves have registered previous interest in pairing Morant with Anthony Edwards in the backcourt.
