Qué rápido se olvida España. Este día (12 de abril) de 1985, Irán a través de Hezbolá bombardeó el restaurante El Descanso (a 9 millas de Madrid y a minutos de la base aérea estadounidense de Torrejón) en una ajetreada noche de viernes y asesinó a 18 civiles españoles mientras hirió a otros 84 (incluidos 11 aviadores estadounidenses). Alrededor de las 10:30 p.m., un terrorista de Hezbolá colocó una bolsa deportiva que contenía aproximadamente 5 kg de explosivos altos debajo del mostrador del bar y salió. Minutos después, la bomba detonó. La explosión fue tan poderosa que todo el edificio de tres pisos se derrumbó, impactando los pisos superiores en la planta baja y el sótano, donde entre 200 y 300 comensales y personal estaban comiendo, bebiendo y disfrutando de una velada normal. Hezbolá dejó claro que su principal objetivo eran los aviantes estadounidenses, pero no les importaba cuántos civiles españoles mataran: "La bomba estaba destinada a ser un ataque contra las fuerzas armadas yanquis".
