November’s tree planting took place at Sunart Fields near Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire. The 125 acre site is an ex-dairy farm which is being re-wilded and has featured in many news articles including The Telegraph, The Guardian and the BBC. Checkmate planted 100 Silver Birch trees.

The Knoydart Peninsula in the Western Highlands is the location for Checkmate to plant 100 Scots Pine trees in October. They typically grow to 25m but can reach 45m and usually live 300yrs although the oldest specimens are over 700yrs.

Checkmate plants 100 Hazel trees on the Knoydart Peninsula in the Western Highlands of Scotland in July. The Hazel was known by the Celts as the “Tree of Knowledge” and makes excellent wood for agricultural fencing. Hazlenuts are rich in protein and flour from them is low-carb.

In June Checkmate are planting several species of trees, totalling 100 (Aspen, Bird Cherry, Cherry Plum, Common Alder, Common Beech, Goat Willow & Grey Willow) at Llangloffan Isaf on the West Coast of Wales. The site is 5 acres of farmland that is being re-wilded.
