@Element_M1ller I moved to Plym in 2015 and it feels very different compared to even then.

Unfortunately that 94% white statistic will be long gone in the next census. I’ve never once felt unsafe in my own city, but I can understand why some people might. In my eyes it’s no more dangerous than when I was a teenage lad - used to be groups of 20/30 of us out on weekends, doing general teenage dickhead behaviour. You don’t get kids doing that here now. But the city centre is infested with alcoholics and smackheads mind. Sticking a cheap hotel right in the middle of town, The Oyo, and then using it to house homeless people wasn’t the cleverest move for that. Thing is with smackheads though - they shit themselves half the time when dealt with, so they ain’t much to worry about. Mobs of Africans congregate at the bottom of town, groups of Middle Eastern/South Asian looking men hanging around parks - Central Park known to be a favourite, and fuck knows how many Barbers/Vape shops/phone shops etc have appeared. At least 12/13 barbers on one half a mile stretch of road on Mutley Plain/North Hill. Plymouths always had so much potential but it’s always like we’ve been forgotten about and there’s our own MP’s/Council to blame for that as well as many others. No motorway, no airport, train is shit. We were flattened during WW2 and half the City Centre and surrounding areas still look bomb damaged. For a City that’s home to the biggest naval base in Western Europe - it could have been so much more. In my eyes it’s still a great city but it’s going downhill rapidly.

It's 1985 and I've just started work. My first month's salary was £160. I worked shifts in a freight office in Dover. A few months later I passed my driving test and bought a cheap car for a few hundred pounds. I put some money to one side and went on holiday for a week. I'd occasionally buy games for my ZX Spectrum and go to the pub with my mates, to have a good night with just £20. Then, one day, I left my job and got another one. It paid more and now I worked regular office hours. I upgraded my car and went on holiday again. Exciting times. Carefree times. And I've only got 2 'O' Levels - grade D! I'm glad to have been part of that era, for it was the best. I wouldn't want to be young today, and looking for a job. And what we had then is gone for good.
