I streamed Crimson Desert yesterday for a few hours. It was all really positive engagement. But once the Steam reviews turned negative, suddenly the chat was flooded with trolls talking about how bad the game was (though they obviously had not played it yet) The hive mind mentality of gaming culture in 2026 is insufferable lol

From the footage shown before release, I could already tell Crimson Desert was shaping up to be more of a technical demo than a fully realized game. That it would feel like an MMO in everything but name. That the story would barely be there. And people went for my throat over it. And I get it, when a game you’re excited about doesn’t meet expectations, it stings. But pretending criticism comes out of nowhere, or that people are just “hating,” isn’t helping anyone. A lot of us are just saying: manage your expectations. We literally had this debate weeks ago: does story matter in games? And yeah, gameplay is important. But for most players, no amount of systems or content will keep them around if there’s no story to anchor it. If anything, this should be a reminder that hype culture is toxic, for players and studios. Because when something looks too good to be true… it usually is.

@E_Vaan @GenePark I promise you the issues aren't as bad as people claim it to be, I spent by first 2 hours chopping trees (yes the stumble and fall and you can still chop them into pieces) and using a pickaxe for rocks It's quite crazy what you can do in this game just takes time

@GenePark i could not possibly be more conflicted on picking this up right now. I'm desperately in the mood for a big open world action RPG, but lord the criticism and issues seem so intense.

restarted crimson desert on ps5 pro and ended up playing all night. much better time knowing what to do and being a pro at navigating the confusing menus. i can just vibe with the world and it looks gorgeous on the pro
