for my birthday, my dear friend 1) bought my dream apron, a pink crossback & 2) embroidered it with purple wildflowers, a reference to the final stanza of my poem “an exit wound that feels so fucking good” when i decided to try recovering from anorexia. my heart is so full. ❤️

On this day last year, there was a total eclipse. I missed it—I was alone in the ER, dying from anorexia. It was the first time I realized the totality of my disorder—how completely it swallowed my life. I wrote about it here:

my wife was extraordinary. my wife was allergic to nutmeg. and when she sneezed, she always sneezed twice. my wife liked other people’s dogs. my wife thought cardigans looked ridiculous. i loved all these things about her…equally.
