it’s okay to criticize capitalism, of course it has its flaw. it’s the herd mentality and the dogmatic approach towards condemning capitalism that bothers me. no other economic system is capable of organizing market resources as efficiently as capitalism. modern capitalism….

I just want to point out that while you’re saying people are classist for asking why people don’t know the difference between margarine and butter, none of you has put forward an instance where Blue Band has been marketed as butter. Not one instance.

Even Calling Blue Band a “spread” instead of margarine isn’t harmless. It’s deliberate. The wording softens what it is and misleads people.

another example is how nigerians overwhelmingly call hot chocolate tea. by this flawed logic, the hot chocolate companies have pulled off a phenomenal heist on nigerians. in reality, it’s simply a slippage of meaning owing to colloquialism

they’re are places in nigeria where people not only colloquially refer to nylon bags as leather but actually think it’s leather. i’m talking, entire communities. by your logic the nylon companies deceptively marketed their products.

@_edem_edem_ this is one example of the many problems of colloquialism in language. it’s why we argue that language, for the most part should have a well-defined scope, and words should be used as stipulated in the dictionary.

@xojesam the reason ffmp is more consumed in nigeria than fresh whole milk is not because nigeria is a dumping ground. there are real constraints such as lack of electricity and other infrastructure, and of course cost constraints. and while ffmp is not as nutritious as whole milk…

@kainoskistis The EU bans ingredients on emotional decisions sometimes without proven evidence that the ingredient is harmful. Some of their decisions are precautionary.

I hate being gaslit. Google “Blue Band… “ and allow the search algorithm predict the next word for you. But yeah, they don’t market as butter. We are all olodos that assumed it was butter. They marketed it as fruit juice.

Margarine una You people continue to be disengenious in this conversation. They know we'd just call it butter if they put it as bread spread. So they aren't necessarily lying (so that nafdac probably wouldn't sanction them) Acting like we didn't think it was butter growing up.
