@LoveJohnathon @GamerxShift @NerdAnonymus @SolaceCinema Funnily enough snape was never hung from a tree in the book.
English

@GamerxShift @NerdAnonymus @SolaceCinema This is such an illegitimate argument. Hanging Snape from a tree can either be handled by letting there be a racist undertone which adds depth or ignoring it as this is a fictional world and the same type of racism doesn’t have to exist. Get over it.
English

@WeThrones @Ih8fatpe0ple I love that I’m about to see nuance and say that both of your comments are valid.
English

@Ih8fatpe0ple Maybe I was wrong to analyze it like that, because basically all AI videos of Snape are made to bash him, so I assumed this one is as well.
If I am wrong, my mistake
English

Is the purpose of this is to make him look bad? Because it failed. Lol

@dinox1138 @jaderants You’re being willfully obtuse but nice discussion anyways. Hope you enjoy the show when it comes out!
English

@chief_oso @jaderants He's black. What more do u need? Try reading the books...
English

@chief_oso All you’re doing is proving that u can’t have a logical debate. Instead ur on here chatting shit. I will have a good day! ✌️
English

@LegendaryAllen Says the black man crying about a fictional character being black…. Lmao have a good day!
English

@mattvsmetaverse I still don’t think that changes the point I’ve stated multiple times but thank you!
English

Always happy to have a respectful debate/discussion. 🫡 I’ll just leave you with this.
If he weren’t actually marble white, it would have been described as any other kind of white or pale. It’s written from the point of view of what the other character’s are seeing when looking at Snape. And when they looked at him, they saw:

English

@LegendaryAllen Oh I’m being pedantic? 😂 Google black sallow skin and do your research yourself! Goodluck!
English

@chief_oso Why are you being pedantic? It’s a simple enough question to which you should easily be able to provide an example.
English

@LegendaryAllen So if I told you have a brain. Would you need a picture of your brain to believe your brain exists?
English

@chief_oso Show us a picture of a sallow skinned black man please
English

@mattvsmetaverse My point is that it was the only reason he was described as being marble white was to convey fear. The fear can be conveyed without him being literally white. Nice discussion though
English

Dude, we’re totally beating a dead horse here. Like, the horse is basically a smoothie at this point. It’s a physical description that a black person simply can’t fit, no matter how light skinned they are. The character’s face is a baseline “pale and sallow” color, and turned “marble white” with fear. It didn’t turn “paler”, “pale”, or “lighter”—it’s a very specific description because you do that in books to paint an image. One that this actor can’t possibly fit. Why is that? Because of the actor’s race/melanin content. The actor doesn’t fit the physical description. It’s not hard brochacho.
There were plenty of other options, but they went with this guy because “he black.” If I were you, I’d be pissed that they’re tokenizing the character instead of representing him correctly. Unless race matters more than lore to you too.
English

@mattvsmetaverse No I think you are actually missing the point. You’re holding onto the fact that snape’s face turned marble white in the book. And the main point was to express his fear. If this actor can express that same fear without turning marble white then what is the big issue..
English

@chief_oso I can’t tell if you’re intentionally missing the point or not… Do you know what a physical description is?—and can a black dude fit this one?
English

@LegendaryAllen I’m repeating myself bc you don’t seem to be grasping my point. And actually many people are saying he can’t be a black man. Yall are hooked on the word sallow as if it is exclusive to white people which AGAIN why I’m reiterating why snape can be played by any race
English

Now u r just repeating yourself. No one’s saying he can’t be a black man but the description given is not that typically of a black man. Black men rarely have ‘hooked noses’. Sallow skin is not the first words one would use to describe a black man. So let’s stop being silly. Not every role is made for every race. Like James Bond, he will always be a white man, darkish hair and blue eyes. So not to be portrayed by a black man.
English

@mattvsmetaverse Right.. the point of his face turning marble white isn’t to show he is a white man. It was to depict the fear. So if this current actor is able to depict the fear without turning marble white then what is the issue.
English

@chief_oso It turned marble white with fear. It’s a descriptor. He was scared AND it was marble white. lol
English

@LegendaryAllen Snape’s race is not significant to the character/story which is why snape can be portrayed by any race. A black man just happened to have the best audition
English

@chief_oso I think if he was originally portrayed by a black man the description would have been very different
English

@mattvsmetaverse Will this actors face turn marble white? Probably not. Is it more important for his face to literally turn marble white or to depict the fact he was expressing shock, rage or fear?
English

@chief_oso @LegendaryAllen @ItsLaDarrion Ok, when you find me a picture of a black dude who turns this color when scared (who also isn’t albino), let me know:

English

@LegendaryAllen I think that’s something for production and make up team to figure out but that doesn’t mean snape can’t be portrayed by a black person
English

@chief_oso @mattvsmetaverse @ItsLaDarrion Yeah black men can look pale but that’s a lot harder to depict on screen and if not portrayed correctly it’s gonna send the wrong message.
English

@mattvsmetaverse @LegendaryAllen @ItsLaDarrion I think it’s fair to say that someone face turning “marble white” which was essentially just saying his face got really pale, is not something that only happens to white people. Which is why snape can be portrayed by any race. A black man just had the best audition 🤷🏾
English

@dinox1138 @jaderants Now how does that white English culture affect or influence his character/story.. if we take that “white English culture” you speak of away, what significant aspect of snape’s character/story changes?
English

@chief_oso @jaderants Snape is a fuckin White dude in 90's England which had a 95% White demographic. His culture is about as White and English as it gets.
English

@LegendaryAllen @ItsLaDarrion Sallow is not a description that is exclusive to white people. Every race can have sallow skin.
English

It’s got nothing to do with race. They are doing a screen adaptation of the books. Meaning there’s source material. The source material describes Severus Snape as ‘a thin man with sallow skin, a large, hooked nose, and yellow, uneven teeth’. What black man do you know with ‘sallow skin’?
I’ve added a description just in case you don’t know what it means.

English
