“dokomi is a con in germany” yeah with a huge international crowd and even guests, artists and vendors etc. so the demand for more english is only natural imo? not that everything should be english, ofc.

@Erinyanya03 no but you made the comparison first (with an untrue statement too), i know it’s different so the comparison you made was not applicable. i’m just correcting you on your statement, i’m not saying it should be the same over there.

@chiizume Your country is not Germany though so the demands and needs are completely different. In Germany there will be obviously a high demand for the German language

@Mereosuki i saw the discussion between more german vs. more english. i said to me it’s natural that the demand for english has become bigger because of the growth of international and/or non german speakers. dokomi already started using more english so i think they know this too

@chiizume Can I ask what you mean by that? I'm just confused cause Germans usually all can speak at least a little english.

@TheBiggestYonk i think both languages can be used alongside each other! it would accommodate everyone, and they’ve already been doing this more and more I believe. but like i said, not everything has to be in english me thinks, the demand just became bigger with the size of the con atm

@chiizume that is true but one of the biggest appeals has always been the strong Otaku subculture in Germany. They built Dokomi brick by brick, just like Japantag, so its foundational that it retains a lot of its German Roots

@rannilein that’s very true, their social media is very accessible for non german speaking attendees!

@chiizume Furthermore, DoKomi posts extensively in English on social media; this certainly gives the impression that the convention would like to become more international.

@chiizume Asking for more things in english is a good way, hating on the con for being mainly for the mothertongue speakers is ass, esp when the same people turn and glaze japan for doing the same exact thing

@miinmorii what about my take irritates u? i said that with such a big international convention, the need for english would only grow in size too. never said you have to speak english in my tweet because it wasn’t even an opinion, but 2 languages can exist alongside eachother imo

@chiizume I'm sorry but if you expect us german speakers to speak English on a GERMAN convention, idk what to tell you. Most artists had a display with their spoken or prefered languages which I find good enough. /nm but your take irritates me

@Erinyanya03 hence i said since theyve grew so big and international, it would make sense that the need for english also grew bigger by the international attendees (yes i think dokomi already uses alot of english). abt your last point: the cons in my country are actually primarily in english!

@chiizume This year was the very first time that so many international folks came to Dokomi. Of course our cons are German. The cons in your country would also stay in your language

@bambitiney yes i think the 2 languages could be used alongside eachother! & i’m actually super used to it since every con here in the netherlands already uses english, it just makes sense to us

@chiizume Genuine question, what exactly do people want/expect to get when they visit a convention in a foreign country? Because while I think English add ons like signs and a program with translation or eng options are a good thing, I wouldn’t want the con itself to become non german

@Le_Sino0w0 hmmmm i think providing english alongside german wouldn’t hurt anyone. they’re in fact already doing that. & alot have said that germans are very good in english so nobody would be excluded anyways. so even more if the 2 languages are used alongside eachother ^^

@chiizume what you dont understand is that in the first place the con in germany is for germans and international guests are appriciated but not the target audience. why exclude thousands of germans in your german con just to accomidate foreigners

@czechiaenjoyer but honestly if your con has become so international then isn’t it natural that they would adapt to accommodate more people? i think they are already doing alot of that, so i think even dokomi themselves agree, which is very much appreciated and shows they care alot!
