Alongside expert speakers from Industry and Academia, we outlined the Fashion, Textiles and Technology Industry sustainability challenges, and areas where cross-disciplinary approaches are necessary in order to drive progress.

At the invitation of the University of Arts London, Business of Fashion, Textiles, and Technology (BFTT) and the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A), I was in London to contribute to the symposium, ‘Material Futures: Transdisciplinary approaches to Sustainable and Circular innovation’

According to @chiomaredbutton, thanks to the support received, her company was able to reach more impact - evidenced by its supply chain transparency tech initiative, and a tech infrastructure for circular fashion, empowering hundreds of women in Nigeria.

Following the end of our R&D project shared earlier, I’m in London to speak at the Beyond Conference, on the impact of global R&D partnerships for sustainable fashion innovation. Look forward to the conversations with the exceptional team and forging further partnerships💫💫

The project involved sourcing of water hyacinth stems from Lagos, conducting experiments, extracting the fibers and spinning. We showcased our results, (which is a first in Africa), Water Hyacinth yarn extracted via manual and chemical processing, at the London Design Week 2023.

This research grant powered by the British Council and implemented by the Fashion Textiles and Technology Institute (FTTI) University of the Arts London, provided us the opportunity to conduct several experiments, and received technical support from experts at FTTI.

In April 2023, myself and project partner, Iyabo Ademosu, were selected as sustainable fashion champions in Nigeria and the UK respectively, and were awarded the New Landscapes R&D Grant to further develop the water hyacinth weed as an alternative sustainable textile.
