@JustinRTBColts @ForTheCOLTure_J I am at a loss as to where, at this point, nuance belilongs in the conversation. The Ballard regime is an unmitigated travesty of mediocrity.

@ForTheCOLTure_J Right - but this isn’t generally how this gets presented. Instead what happens is people zoom out so far there is zero nuance in the entire discussion.

Ten years of mediocrity, meaning overall record and performance in ten years. 62-69-1 is the definition of mediocrity. 0 division titles, 1 playoff win. 2 playoff births. All in mostly a bad division where every other team has won the divison 2x + since the Colts last won it.
Justin Aufiero@JustinRTBColts

Gosh I hate to be this guy with the Colts, but I can’t help it—especially with takes like this. Saying they’ve been mediocre all 10 years ISN’T a fact. Most years? YES. But 2018 and 2020 get glossed over, along with the context surrounding those years. It’s revisionist history.

@Slyfox696 @mksheikh @TheLoDownSports I don't need to answer them, though. CFP berths aren't determined solely on subjective rankings. And why are ND fans complaining about conference championship wins/losses? ND is too cowardly to join a conference.

@chip_bennett @mksheikh @TheLoDownSports You didn't answer my questions. Let's try again. How did Miami pass ND in the rankings when neither team played? Why did every team EXCEPT Alabama, who lost by 3 TDs, move down after losing their conference championship game? These are questions I would love for you to answer.

@Slyfox696 @mksheikh @TheLoDownSports The team that beat ND head-to-head advanced to the CFP. ND fans think this outcome is evidence of "naked corruption". ND thought they were entitled to a CFP berth. IU knows they weren't good enough for the NCAA field of 64.

@mksheikh @TheLoDownSports So, rather than getting screwed by a nakedly corrupt process like ND, IU knows they didn't deserve their spot and are still throwing a tantrum and not playing? Interesting position for a Hoosier fan to take.

@Brigette912 @TheLoDownSports Only a Notre Dame fan could think this is a valid comparison or a reasonable analogy. ND withdrew because they felt slighted after being passed over for a team that beat them head-to-head. IU declined NIT because of player turnover, and not because they felt snubbed by NCAA.

Someone on my Facebook feed said we should do this in Indiana. What do you think? Colorado collects roughly $250–300 million per year in marijuana taxes. Illinois brought in over $450 million in 2023. It certainly wouldn’t fill our entire need, but it would bring in something.

@shannons1724 @alt_w_v_g The epiphany comes when you realize this experience was a lesson not for the financial advisor, but rather for OP's wife. The common denominator seems to be her lack of trust in and support of her husband.

Firstly, your posts are fantastic, don’t be offended when I criticize you. You were aware of the advisor’s youthful character, were you being coy when you introduced probabilities he may or may not be familiar with? It’s not his fault he wasn’t prepared for testday, but I agree that there should be familiarity or a willingness to learn. BUT, just because your wife made the appointment, doesn’t mean she kept you in the dark where you were going. It is your responsibility to research what they are currently offering to make them comfortable talking about the subject of retirement. THEN you bring in other factors they should be aware of… BUT, I do understand if you don’t want to waste your time. Tell your wife that. Suggestion: “Baby, I’m glad you took the initiative to discuss our retirement. Next time, let’s talk over where first…” ❤️

Met with a financial advisor today My wife set it up She wants "a professional opinion" on our retirement Nice office Glass desk Diploma on the wall from a school I've never heard of The advisor was 23 Maybe 24 He had a pullover vest and a rehearsed handshake He handed me a pitch book It had someone else's name on it I chose not to mention that He said "based on your risk profile I'd recommend a 60/40 portfolio" I said "what's the fee?" He said "1% annually" I ran the compound drag over 25 years in my head Said the number out loud Then I said it again slower His smile went away I said "what's the tax strategy?" He said "we review that annually" I said "what's the Roth conversion ladder? The asset location framework? The blended expense ratio on the underlying funds? Why wouldn't I just buy VOO for free and do this from my phone?" He opened his mouth Closed it Excused himself Came back with his boss Same vest Bigger watch The boss said "I hear you have some concerns" I said "not concerns. Questions. Your 23-year-old couldn't answer them. That's my concern." My wife kicked me under the table I kept going The boss said "the value is in the relationship" I said "that's what my therapist says too. She charges $250 an hour. You're charging more and doing less." The boss looked at my wife My wife looked at the ceiling I've now been to a therapist, a realtor, a car dealership, and a financial advisor this month My wife has walked out of every single one I asked her in the car what she thinks the common denominator is She said "you" I said "interesting. Not sure how to model that." Plz fix. Thx. Sent from my iPhone

@cosmchk @alt_w_v_g @proudtigerlsu1 Absolutely not, not with a child like that! The child is literal, and brilliant, hence he requires to be extraordinary socialization. I’d start buying him etiquette books, and sign him up for volunteer work, something like dusting and reading for seniors in a veterans home.

Update: didn't realize my parent-teacher conference went viral Until the teacher called my wife saying she saw it My wife asked why strangers on the internet care about our life I said "I don't know. I just write down what happens." She said "that's the problem" She's probably right A follow-up conference has been scheduled This time she requested my wife come alone I was not invited First time I've ever been excluded from a meeting I didn't want to attend It stung more than I expected But I have my wife's calendar synced to my phone Will I attend anyway? Of course Plz fix. Thx. Sent from my iPhone
Ethan Brooks@alt_w_v_g

Had a parent-teacher conference this morning My wife told me not to come I came anyway She said "please just listen and nod" I said "I always listen" She said "you listen like you're sitting in a boardroom looking for something to challenge" That's how listening works Nice classroom Small chairs I am 6'4" and was seated at a desk designed for someone who still believes in Santa Claus My knees touched my chest The teacher introduced herself Shared her identified pronouns I shared my identified adjectives Smart and handsome My wife closed her eyes The teacher had a folder Color-coded tabs I respected the organization She said our son is "a pleasure to have in class" My wife smiled I waited That sentence is never the whole report It's the executive summary before the risk section She said "however" There it is She said he "asks a lot of questions" I said "good" She said "during quiet time" I said "when is quiet time?" She said "it's when students are expected to work independently and in silence" I said "so he's the only one trying to get information and you've structured the environment to prevent it?" My wife put her hand on my arm I continued The teacher said he recently told another student that "sharing pencils doesn't make sense if nobody brings their own" I said "that's an accurate observation" My wife squeezed harder The teacher said she's concerned about his "resistance to group activities" I said "he's not resistant. He just doesn't see the value of doing more work for the same grade." The teacher said he also corrected her math on the whiteboard I said "was he right?" She paused She said "that's not the point" I said "it's a little bit the point" My wife stood up Sat back down Compromise The teacher pulled out an evaluation sheet Categories like "works well with others" and "follows directions" and "respects classroom norms" All subjective Not a number on the page I asked how these are graded She said "based on observation" I said "so one person's opinion with no second review?" She said "it's professional judgment" I said "my auditors say that too. Right before I disagree with them." She looked at my wife My wife said "I'm sorry about him" I said "I'm sitting right here" My wife said "I know" The teacher said overall he's a bright kid and she just wants to make sure he learns to "collaborate" I said "collaboration is important. But so is recognizing when you're the only one doing the work. He'll learn that again in college. And again in the real world. Might as well start now." Nobody spoke The teacher closed her folder She said "I think we've covered everything" I said "one more thing" She braced herself I said "his reading is above grade level. His math is strong. He asks hard questions and corrects mistakes when he sees them. I just want to make sure this school knows what it has." The teacher looked at me differently My wife looked at me differently I said "that's all" We left In the car my wife was quiet Then she said "he's turning into you" I said "is that a good thing?" She didn't answer From the backseat he said "dad, why does the teacher count off for asking questions? Isn't that the whole point of school?" I looked at my wife She looked out the window I said "yes. It is." He said "I don't think she likes when I'm right" I didn't say anything Neither did my wife Small chairs Color-coded tabs No follow-up items But the kid's going to be fine Sent from my iPhone

@Kristine_Froeba @JustMeZuzu @alt_w_v_g @proudtigerlsu1 The father is the only adult mentioned in this scenario who upheld etiquette. The son did, too, for that matter. Correcting a teacher's math error in the moment does not violate etiquette. In doing so, it prevents 20 other students from being taught a falsehood.

@JustMeZuzu @alt_w_v_g @proudtigerlsu1 This entire thread requires an etiquette coach. The father should attend, take the high road, and not mention or respond to anything contentious. The topic: the boy.

@Kristine_Froeba @JM4LISD @alt_w_v_g @proudtigerlsu1 I can't tell if you're being serious right now. There's no "room for interpretation" in arithmetic, and it's detrimental to the entire classroom's education to learn those things wrong the first time. Is this why so many adults are borderline illiterate?

@Kristine_Froeba @JM4LISD @alt_w_v_g @proudtigerlsu1 If etiquette weren't open to interpretation, Dear Abby and the entire cottage industry around etiquette and manners wouldn't exist. You know what isn't open to interpretation? Basic arithmetic. Nobody asks Dear Abby if 2 + 2 = 5.

Etiquette isn’t open to interpretation. Learning the social rules of order is extremely important, especially in younger children. One rule of etiquette is to not correct others, especially in public’. If the child, or an adult, must inform another of an error, in this case, the teacher, it should wait till it’s in private. Then the teacher can choose to correct her action, and give him credit. An a parent: “We don’t correct others, and especially never in front of others. It’s not important that everyone knows you’re right, it’s more important to care about other people’s feelings —- unless it’s an emergency.”

@educatedandfree @alt_w_v_g @73Newport Fun fact: my HS AP Econ teacher sometimes let me teach the class. (Great guy. Love him to death, to this day.) My kids are homeschooled. It's a privilege that not everyone can manage. But more ad more are finding a way - and reasons to do so.

I’m an Econ teacher. I’m gonna remind you of Econ 101 The most important cost that normies don’t measure is opportunity cost. Don’t keep him I that school. Every day there is a day he won’t get back, a day he could have rocketed ahead. I have PTA’s over parents like you and your wife who can write a narrative like this but then keep their kids in the school that retains and empowers teachers like this. I need more men like you running shit. He is going to be a man like you. Don’t let them hobble him.

@jenna_l_bragg @sails_and_such @alt_w_v_g Cocky? 🤣 The teacher has an ego the size of the Hindenburg. Instead of praising the kid for correcting her math error, she got offended and reported it to the parents as if it were a detriment to him.
