5 tips to reduce breast cancer risk from the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) - a trusted information source. DYK- roughly 25% of breast cancer cases are linked to modifiable risk factors; here are 5 key tips to reduce your risk: Maintain a Healthy Weight Obesity, particularly after menopause, increases breast cancer risk because fat tissue produces estrogen, which can fuel cancer growth. Stay Physically Active Regular exercise (at least 150 minutes of moderate activity weekly) helps reduce body fat and balance hormone levels. Limit or Avoid Alcohol Consumption Alcohol is a known carcinogen, and consumption is linked to higher risk; the safest approach is to avoid it or limit it to one drink per day. Avoid or Limit Long-Term Hormone Therapy Post-menopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT), especially combined estrogen-progesterone therapy, increases risk. Discuss alternatives with your doctor. Opt for Breastfeeding Breastfeeding, if possible, provides a protective effect by reducing the total lifetime exposure to estrogen. Additional note: Quitting smoking, avoiding exposure to secondhand smoke, and minimizing exposure to chemicals in certain areas.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women globally with 2.3M new cases & 670,000 deaths in 2022, with cases projected to rise 38% by 2050. Improving access to care and addressing social & cultural barriers is essential. @who 🔗 uicc.org/what-we-do/the…

Early prediction of Alzheimer’s disease by noninvasive blood tests may now be feasible! It's a simple blood test measuring plasma p-tau217 (phosphorylated tau 217), a protein biomarker for Alzheimer's pathology. In the JAMA study of 2,766 postmenopausal women (mean age ~70), higher baseline levels predicted mild cognitive impairment or dementia up to 25 years later (HR 2.43 per 1-SD increase). It's done via ALZpath Simoa assay—far less invasive than brain scans. jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

Cure is no longer the end goal—living well post-cancer is. Let’s build a system for every Indian survivor. ANVESHAN 2026 at @PGIChildHealth & @chipfoundation brought survivorship into the national spotlight. For too long, it’s been the “forgotten half” of Indian oncology. We celebrate rising cure rates (e.g., 94.5% 5-yr survival in recent national childhood cohort), yet survivors face late effects, psychosocial trauma, financial toxicity & fragmented FU with little structured support. A strong national survivorship plan is urgent; digital platforms offer the smartest, fastest, most equitable scale-up. Why digital changes the game in India: - National Digital Survivorship Registry linked to NCR & Ayushman Bharat, auto-generating risk-stratified SCPs that follow the patient. - Telemedicine + AI for routine late effects monitoring (cardiac, endocrine, neurocognitive, 2nd cancers) via apps/wearables—cutting long travel rural survivors can’t afford. - Multidisciplinary virtual clinics linking district hospitals to peds oncologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, psychologists & rehab experts in real time. - Patient tools: symptom trackers, fertility/psychosocial resources, vocational rehab modules, regional-language peer communities—all integrated with PMJAY/state schemes. - Equity via geo-tagged dashboards to prevent loss to FU in Northeast, rural UP, tribal areas. Proof-of-concept exists: DigiSwasthya rural tele-network (cancer survivor-led), ICCS 5,000+ pt tracking, consensus guidelines for childhood survivorship clinics. Missing: national policy integration & sustainable funding. The call to ensure the best care via digital is the 2026 vision India needs. Survivorship is now front-page, not back-burner. @nr_pedhemonc
