Phil Collins is a complete rarity in a UK context; he’s the Prog bloke, that people at The Pub could relate to. He laid the groundwork to utterly capture Pop, whilst maintaining an absolute sense of authenticity. Even if you don’t dig it - you never think he doesn’t mean it.

@exquisitebizoun @thrillersbabe Bingo. Exactly this. Touring in the 70-90s was to support album sales. Now it’s pretty much the only way for a musician to make a living via music (yes merch sales at shows are needed to help defeat tour costs). And now the cost of travel is insane: hotel, gas, food.

@thrillersbabe Inflation has nothing to do with it. Concerts used to serve as promotional tours for albums back when people actually bought recorded music. Now that recorded music has no value, concerts are the main way musical acts make money.

hey so this is nirvana criticizing $50 concert tickets in 1993. fuck any inflation argument bc $50 in 2026 is $112, not $1000. parasocial defense is embarrassing and most artists are greedy as hell. fuck ticketmaster.
