Free lifetime updates aren’t sustainable, nor were creators ever obligated to provide them. Some individual devs may have promised them, and I hope people can be understanding about that. In my case, I never made that promise, yet I’m being accused of going back on it.

Clearly I'm supportive of creators being paid for the work they do however, so I applaud SH's decision to highlight the struggles creators experience in the market, and attempting to set a new standard.

Also, the attached demo was a test where I wanted to create a promo for the video using just one prompt. The prompt was "Use the /hole-in-one skill to create a video for shot-swap and be sure and show the top 4 or 5 features." The AI built the entire video, including writing the script, capturing images, creating the voice-over, animating the cursor and compiling the video. A "proof of concept" for my /hole-in-one skill I've been fine tuning.

A free video editor I built for my own workflow Over the past few months I’ve been spending a lot of time producing tutorials, demos, and product videos. Like a lot of creators, my workflow ended up split between two different tools. I usually start in Camtasia, because it’s excellent for screen recordings, rough cuts, pan-and-scan moves, and adding visual elements. Then I export the project to Descript, which is great for transcription and editing video through the text — tightening dialog, removing filler words, and doing additional cleanup. The problem is that neither tool really does everything well. Camtasia is great for visual editing but lacks the powerful transcript-based editing that Descript provides. Descript, on the other hand, is fantastic for working with transcripts and cleaning up audio, but once you start adding overlays, layered tracks, transitions, or more complex edits, it quickly becomes difficult to manage. On top of that, between the two subscriptions I’m spending close to $400 per year, which started to feel a little crazy — especially since I only really rely on a subset of the features in each program. So I decided to try something a little different: I built my own editor. The result is an early alpha called ShotSwap — an Electron-based video editor that combines the pieces of both tools that I rely on most. It includes timeline editing with multiple tracks, Ken Burns-style pan and scan, SVG and element overlays, transitions, in/out editing and exporting, transcript-based editing, and audio cleanup tools like noise reduction and echo removal. The goal is to move seamlessly between visual editing and transcript editing without switching applications. Another big part of this project is that I want it to be something I can continue to improve and give away to others. Instead of paying hundreds of dollars a year for tools that only partially fit my workflow, I’d rather build something useful that creators can download and use freely — and then keep evolving it over time. That said, this is still very much an alpha release. I’ve already used it on about half a dozen projects and it’s working well for me, but I’m sure there are still bugs. If you run into anything strange or not working, please let me know so I can track it down and improve things. There are also quite a few features already, so be sure to check out the documentation to see what’s available. I'll have a section in my cw1.me/discord for feedback and feature requests. Right now the build is Windows-only, but if there’s interest in Mac or Linux versions, let me know and I’ll see about compiling those as well. My goal with ShotSwap is pretty simple: build a full-featured editor that actually fits the workflows and use cases I deal with every day — and share it with others who might benefit from it too. @dachswerk Sub optimal. Yes, I agree. But it works great. I have no issues. For me, Premiere is also sub-optimal. I wonder if it was vibe coded?

そうそう、データはbackblaze B2だと地味に毎月のコストが高いなーと思っていたので、pcloud lifetimeで rclone cryptバックアップに切り替えようかなと。backblazeは仕事では使ってるし堅牢なのは立証済みだけど、個人の方はpcloudで十分すぎる。重要データは他のクラウドとも同期してるし。
