A sadistic bully that horrifically tortured his dog to death by beating and burning it has avoided a prison sentence. Levi Balmer inflicted severe injuries and caused a dog significant pain and distress has been handed a 10-year ban on owning, keeping and taking charge of dogs. The 20-year-old, from Rutherglen, subjected the Cane Corso cross American Bully puppy to such severe abuse she died of pain-related stress. Balmer pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to a charge of causing 16-week-old Mabel unnecessary physical and mental suffering which left her in such severe pain that she passed away Balmer was also handed a 162 hours community payback order and placed under 12 months social work supervision. Leaving her with second and third-degree burns Balmer held Mabel on a hot surface in his Rutherglen flat leaving her with second and third-degree burns. He also physically attacked or beat Mabel and fractured a tooth. The dog suffered scalding to its face, hind limbs, tail and pads, was bleeding from a wound to her shoulder, had blood from her nose and mouth, lameness, swelling and was in acute pain prior to death. On Christmas Eve 2024, a call was made to the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline by a vet who was concerned about the condition a deceased dog had been brought into the practice in. The vet explained Mabel had been brought into the practice multiple times before with serious injuries and that there were suspicions, she had suffered significant abuse. A Scottish SPCA Inspector spoke to Levi Balmer on the phone, and an investigation was launched into the cause of Mabel’s death. The Scottish SPCA requested permission for Mabel’s body to be uplifted in order to carry out a post-mortem, which Balmer agreed to. On the same day, the Inspector attended the vet to see Mabel’s body. The image of Mabel still follows me to this day The Scottish SPCA Inspector said: “The image of Mabel still follows me to this day. It was quickly evident she has been victim of extreme abuse and cruelty during her short life; her wounds were so severe. It is one of the most distressing cases I have ever dealt with.” On November 26 2024, Mabel was brought into the vet after coming into contact with bleach. Balmer explained to the vet that he had washed Mabel in the bath two days earlier, forgetting that he had put bleach in the bath to clean it previously that day. On December 11 2024, Mabel was examined by another vet due to a complaint of her being lethargic, urinating blood and a lump being found. Balmer explained that he had tripped and fallen on her earlier that day. A number of teeth were chipped or missing and she had blood in her urine which was indicative of a UTI. Mabel was taken to the vet again on December 21, 2024, as an emergency appointment due to a history of non-weight bearing lameness, losing teeth, facial swelling and struggle to eat. Balmer reported that Mabel seemed “injury-prone and clumsy” and said that she had “crashed into” her dog crate, resulting in a small wound on her shoulder. Due to suspicion over her injuries, another appointment was booked in for December 27 to examine Mabel further – but she was presented as dead on arrival to the vet on December 24. During the post-mortem examination, it was concluded that the pattern of injury was most consistent with a scald injury and that Mabel had been burnt deliberately. Evidence also showed the fractures had been caused by a deliberate attack rather than an accident.

Remember Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian woman who spent 8 years on death row after being accused of “blasphemy” for drinking water from a Muslim’s cup. Asia was working in the fields with her Muslim coworkers. She got thirsty and went to fetch water from the well, where she took a drink with an old metal cup she had found. That’s all it took. Christians are considered dirty and impure in Islam, and she was accused of attempting to contaminate the Muslims’ water just by drinking from their cup. She was sentenced to death by hanging. The governor of her province voiced opposition to the verdict and was assassinated by his own bodyguard. When she was finally acquitted in 2018 due to international pressure, tens of thousands of Muslims rioted, demanding her immediate execution. A local poll found that 10 MILLION Pakistanis would personally kill her if given the chance. Just for drinking water from a Muslim’s cup. Her lawyer had to flee the country. And after months in hiding, she was finally able to escape Pakistan and received asylum in Canada. This is Pakistan, where non-Muslims live under the constant threat of death. The more I learn about this country, the more it just feels like ISIS with a formal government.

I cannot believe we have to do this. The New York Times, the paper of record, just published an op-ed accusing the State of Israel of systematic sexual violence against Palestinian detainees, including the claim that Israel is training dogs to rape prisoners. One of their sources is a man who left his job after multiple people, including minors, accused him of sending them threatening and sexual messages. The other is Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, a group whose chairman was sanctioned by Israel as a Hamas operative and who publicly called the testimonies of Israeli women raped on October 7th “fabricated lies.” The Times is using the words of a man credibly accused of sexually harassing children, and an organization led by a man who denies the rape of Jewish women, to build a case that Israelis are sexual predators. This is the most serious accusation you can level at a country. It demands the most serious sourcing. The Times decided the opinion section was good enough. It is not good enough. And spare me the crocodile tears. The same people who spent two years calling the rape victims of October 7th liars, who told us “believe women” had an asterisk when the women were Jewish, are about to share this op-ed with tears in their eyes. They never cared about sexual violence. They cared about who they could pin it on. I do not want to spend my day writing about this. But when the largest newspaper in the world launders this against my people, silence is complicity. @nytimes owes our community, and its readers, an apology.

The New York Times just published a 4,000-word investigative exposé on the shocking revelation that countries participating in Eurovision…...want to win Eurovision. That’s it. Officials lobbied broadcasters to avoid being kicked out of the contest? Congratulations to the Times for uncovering what literally every country involved in Eurovision has understood for decades. Ukraine benefited from massive geopolitical solidarity voting. Balkan countries openly mobilize diaspora voting blocs every single year. Eurovision has always been political. The entire continent knows this. And after thousands of words, the Times itself admits: 🔸️no bots, 🔸️no hacking, 🔸️no vote rigging, 🔸️no covert manipulation, 🔸️no evidence rules were broken. Their big “investigation” boils down to "Israelis encouraged supporters to use the voting system exactly as designed." The whole article is just a sad attempt to retroactively delegitimize Israeli public support because certain European broadcasters were furious Israel kept doing well in the televote despite the anti-Israel climate. The funniest part is the faux horror over “vote 20 times” campaigns — as though Eurovision itself didn’t create the very system allowing viewers to vote 20 times. If your voting system can be swung by a few hundred highly motivated fans, that’s an indictment of Eurovision’s structure, not proof of some sinister Israeli operation. But that’s a much less dramatic headline than “The Jooz' Eurovision propaganda machine"
