new york runs trains every 4 minutes at 2am and the rest of america can’t run a bus every 15 minutes at noon. we don’t have a transit technology problem we have an ambition problem. one city decided trains were essential and 300 others decided they were optional

@chmonke @johnald42 This is the mistake deligne made, he took pre topology and used etale morphisms to prove weil this angered g, ofc they are cool but toposes are the main story. That the category of sheaves that have finiteness props(girauds) on what u defined above is a more fundamental thing.

@johnald42 They’re cool they just take the notion of an open cover of a topological space being a bunch of maps U_i -> X where they’re jointly surjective, and makes that a notion for all objects.
They satisfy stupid axioms like “stable under pullback, cover of covers is a cover”, etc
