Juneteenth, for example, is a celebration of Black heritage, not Cinco de Mayo. This isn’t just one person’s opinion—it’s reflected in situations like KPWR, better known as Power 106 FM, in Los Angeles. Despite being the city’s self-proclaimed “Home of Hip Hop,” the station operates 24/7 without a single Black program director or DJ, and currently has no Black representation on air.
