@hezzy_starrVO I struggle with this too. I think it stems from some sort imposter syndrome - like I have to work harder or more than anyone else in order to prove my value. I dunno. I'm "working" on it 😆.

@SarahNightVA Make us feel welcome and accepted but push us to get the best takes. For me personally, I love when a director has existing mediums they can pull from and reference when discussing characters or motivations. .@chris_dituri any input?

Just doing a little research for my upcoming director job! So, voice actors, what do you appreciate from a director, and what do you dislike? 😄 Both for live direction and when the director is asking for revisions for a self-direct ❤️

@SarahNightVA Real advice though- look for indie gigs to direct, and also meet as many directors as you can. A lot of my business comes from referrals. Sometimes directors can't take gigs for whatever reason, and you can get work that way.

@SarahNightVA My start came from an unusual place- being an audio engineer first and having a big mouth in session, haha. My first "directing" gig came actually from being the engineer in a session where the director that was hired was very inexperienced.

I'd love to get more official experience in voice direction for games ❤️ Been dabbling in direction for a while with directing video game demos, and coaching for 2 years 😄 But I've got a taste for it now and I want more 👀 If you're a voice director, how'd you get your start?

@SarahNightVA The client ended up firing the director mid-project, and because I was basically doing the job, they hired me to do it. From there it kind of snowballed. I know "take someone else's job" is not the advice you wanted to hear, but sometimes the gigs come when you least expect it.

@SarahNightVA Congrats Sarah! I had my choice a few years ago between that and trading a guitar for a Manley Reference mic (Look it up- also a super mic). In the end, not laying out cash won and I went with the Manley. However, every time I see a U87 I think to myself, "It will be mine..."

So... uh, I may have just bought a Neumann U87 ai Microphone 🎙️👀 It's coming tomorrow 🤩
