On lui a dit qu'il n'avait pas le physique. Pas assez beau pour les premiers rôles. Pas assez drôle pour les comiques. Il est né le 24 mai 1951 à Castiglione, près d'Alger. Famille juive pied-noir. Quand l'Algérie bascule, tout le monde traverse la Méditerranée. Il arrive en France adolescent, avec l'accent et sans relations. À Paris, il veut devenir acteur. En attendant, il paye son loyer comme placeur à l'Olympia. Chaque soir, il installe les spectateurs dans la salle pendant que d'autres montent sur scène. Et il écrit. Des pièces, dans un coin. Puis il rencontre Agnès Jaoui. À deux, ils signent les dialogues les plus justes du cinéma français. Cuisine et Dépendances. Un air de famille. Le Goût des autres. Cinq César. Quatre pour le scénario. Un pour le second rôle. Jamais celui du meilleur acteur. Son registre : la colère tendre. Le type qui râle parce qu'il aime trop. Le beau-frère exaspéré. Le père qui ne sait pas dire. Personne en France ne jouait ça comme lui. Personne depuis ne l'a remplacé. Il s'appelait Jean-Pierre Bacri. Il aurait eu 75 ans aujourd'hui.
