Really really excited to be joining @UBCLinguistics! I'm so happy to get to work with the lovely people in the department I'll be going to @KempnerInst in the interim, again lucky to work with lovely, interdisciplinary people I'd love to hang if you're in Boston or Vancouver!

A fantastic paper! Really interesting finding that further clarifies how the task we choose can influence our findings, especially in agreement attraction.
Anna Laurinavichyute@annlaurin

Paper alert!📢 @tmalsburg and I looked hard into agreement attraction configurations in grammatical sentences, and, against all probability, found stable attraction effects in 3 experiments: authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S07…. Why did we find the effects when 30+ other studies failed to?

Excited to share a preprint if my reply to Deal (2024) and Oxford (2022), who argue for an interaction/satisfaction approach in Agree. I show why distinguishing between these two conditions is not necessary (and more strongly, why it should be abandoned) ling.auf.net/lingbuzz/007966

@emhusband "clusivity" is a thing (as in inclusive/exclusive) so I for one am in full support.

I really want terms like 'sent'/'ence' or 'clusion' to be a thing so I can stop writing "X was present or absent from the stimulus" or "we manipulated the inclusion/exclusion of X in the sentence". Just awful.

A pun that could only be in Canadian English (or at least not in American English): A restaurant near my apartment doing an all-you-can eat pasta dinner, calling it the "All Access Pass(ta)".

So I am looking for cases like this: First omnivorous the probe obtains: 1 -> 2/3 = 1 2/3 -> 1 = 1 2 <-> 3 = DEFAULT (probably looks like 3) Second omnivorous the probe obtains: 2 -> 1/3 = 2 1/3 -> 2 = 2 1 <-> 3 = DEFAULT (probably looks like 3) (3/3)

To be clear, Nez Perce (Deal 2015) doesn't fit the bill for a skipping-type omnivorous second since in the 1 -> 2 cases you get first person agreement along the way to second, rather than just skipping the first person entirely. (2/3)

I need help with a question RE omnivorous person agreement!! Are there languages that omnivorously seek first or second person? And by this, I mean entirely SKIP agreeing with other persons, so when a 1 or 2 (respectively) isn't around you get default/failed agreement? (1/3)

What's that thing called again where you combine something extremely undesirable with something you really like? I'm listening to D'Angelo and submitting expense reports (I'll let you guess which is which)
