I had the privilege to work with Senator Thompson in the effort to pardon and later exonerate the Groveland Four. She was determined, tenacious, and wise — and will be greatly missed. RIP, Senator.

Sam was also an insightful teacher who was generous with his time, experience, and guidance. He was a mentor to many and an example to all in his devotion to @CityofJax. Jacksonville has lost a titan and Sam will be greatly missed. Sending prayers to his family. RIP, Sam. (3/3)

Sam was a tireless public administrator, but to leave it there would minimize his impact. He was a prime mover, someone whose leadership abilities included an incomparable understanding of #Jaxpol government as well as a matchless will and keen understanding of the way. (2/3)
