This is probably the best look at the shockwaves I’ve seen from the latest Starship flight. Captured from a GoPro I clamped onto a proper camera to record simultaneous video. (I’ll show you the photo the better camera took in the reply)

Maiden launch of Starship V3, S39 & B19 from the new Launch Pad 2, captured by one of the NSF remote cameras and a high-fidelity audio recorder. The scale is so massive that it looks like a slow-motion shot as the Starship lifts off rapidly. youtube.com/watch?v=UfQHy4… @NASASpaceflight

This new pad design controls the plume of Starship very nicely! It should make deployed camera shots far more predictable, and continue to lead to even more incredible content! 🎥: me for @NASASpaceflight

My favorite photo from yesterday: A powerful sight as the latest iteration of Starship climbs through Texan skies. Captured via a sound-triggered camera, this camera captured the chaotic scene far better than I could from a safe distance. Prints available in the reply.

Color-coding the engine config according to startup/shutdown sequences REALLY shows the impact of that single engine on the entire booster. 3 other engines failed to fully light before the energetic event.

Technology is amazing. Here's my track of @NASASpaceflight's CP11 camera for @SpaceX Starship Flight 11, from nearly 2,000 miles away. Not too shabby for a first attempt at remote tracking a moving rocket.

SpaceX has released a statement after today's 12th Starship test flight: "The flight test began with Super Heavy igniting all 33 Raptor 3 engines and ascending over the Gulf of America. A single Raptor engine shut down during ascent. The successful first-stage ascent was followed by a hot-staging maneuver, with Starship’s upper stage igniting its six Raptor engines to continue its flight to space. Following stage separation, the Super Heavy booster performed a directional flip maneuver and attempted its boostback burn. It was unable to light all planned engines and performed a partial boostback burn that ended early. Super Heavy attempted to reignite its engines for the landing burn before experiencing a hard splashdown in the Gulf of America. During its ascent burn to space, Starship lost one of the Raptor 3 vacuum engines but demonstrated its engine-out capability and achieved its planned trajectory. During coast, Starship successfully deployed all 20 Starlink simulators and two modified Starlink satellites that imaged Starship in space. These simulators and modified Starlink satellites were on the same suborbital trajectory as Starship. Starship re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere and was able to gather critical data on the performance of its heatshield and structural strength. In the final minutes of flight, Starship performed a maneuver to intentionally stress the structural limits of the vehicle’s rear flaps and a dynamic banking move to mimic the trajectory that future missions returning to Starbase will fly. Starship then guided itself using its four flaps to the pre-planned splashdown zone in the Indian Ocean, and executed a landing flip, landing burn, and splashdown on two Raptor engines."

Update linked here on Starship’s performance today. For these development missions the most critical thing is getting the data, and getting data on engine out performance as well as an awesome entry is a great outcome today. There were lots of things happening in Mission Control but Starship flew through them and had an awesome landing. Tons to learn from ship and booster. It’s great to be flying again and to show off this new rocket. Thanks to everyone at @SpaceX working tirelessly to bringing the future to life, it’s awesome working alongside you all.

That feeling when you place a camera down in a location and expect it to die...but not only does it survive, it delivers. This camera was placed right next to Starhopper, the closest proximity I have ever had a camera to Starship to this point. The intensity of liftoff is dramatically portrayed here. 📸 - @NASASpaceflight PRINTS ARE AVAILABLE HERE: shop.nasaspaceflight.com/collections/me…
