I feel incredibly fortunate to do what I do.
For the past year and a half, I’ve quietly been building the Masquerade alongside @SamSpratt, the lovely @MrsRachelSpratt, and my small team at @niftygateway.
After working on The Monument Game and helping bring the observation experience to Venice, I already knew Sam was a little unhinged (in the best way). But when he first pitched the Masquerade, I realized I had vastly underestimated his capacity for delusion. It was one of the most intricate, mind-bending artistic write-ups I’d ever read. He called it a “modern exegesis,” and I thought, cool, cool…what the fuck is that? My notes were all over the place. It took me a long time to fully wrap my head around where to even begin.
The first few months of this project were filled with an endless stream of whys. Why this structure? Why do you want to do this at all? But I’ve learned that the best projects don’t come with easy answers—just better questions. And the Masquerade has been nothing if not a relentless pursuit of the right ones.
Now, as we bring it to life, it’s been incredible to see the people Players have been inviting into this world—decisions that I know were not made lightly. Web3 is filled with all kinds of characters, but somehow, Sam’s work seems to attract the best of them.
Sam, carrying out your vision may be my burden as your Nifty Producer, but watching them take shape is my privilege. Thank you for trusting us with your delusions. To everyone stepping inside the Masquerade welcome —and strap in. You’re in for one hell of a party.
