Snow/Ice line is creeping northwards, but ahead of it, the snow is quite heavy and likely will be until the changeover is complete.
The most intense snowfall will occur just ahead of the change from snow ot ice pellets and freezing rain. #nlwx

@EddieSheerr Is it going to be wet and heavy like the last one?

Environment Canada has now placed St. John’s in a Winter Storm Warning, along with the Avalon Southeast, for 20 to 30 cm of snow and wind gusts up to 100 km/h.
Snow starts this evening and ends Sunday afternoon, as it looks now.

@EddieSheerr Just back in snow is very heavy even the snowblower struggled with it. First time in a while I had the blower stall from wet snow

Much of Avalon is currently seeing a reduction in snowfall, making now a great time to make a first pass at clearing your driveways and walkways. Areas in the south may be seeing ice pellets and/or freezing rain. #nlwx

@EddieSheerr Is there a point to going out midday or late afternoon to at least doing an initial clear of the driveway or wait until Tuesday morning do you think?
English

Looking at the initial guidance suite as it has come in, no major changes stand out to me.
Snow arrives on the Island overnight. The heaviest will be Monday morning, but it will snow well into Monday night or Tuesday morning for many areas in the east and on the Avalon. #nlwx
Wind speeds ramp up Monday and peak Monday evening, with gusts exceeding 100 km/h. There will be some major drifting even though temperatures will be near freezing.
I think the ECMWF model has a realistic snowfall field, although locally higher amounts are possible due to local enhancements, and the opposite is also true.
Essentially, we are still on track.

@EddieSheerr When is a good time to start the clean up? Any chance of getting at it tonight or is it better to wait until morning?
English

The most intense snowfall rates of the day currently occuring over the Avalon/Metro area. This is the 2 to 5 cm per hour type stuff that was in the forecast. #nlwx

English

@EddieSheerr No snow day by the looks of it, delayed opening at best seems to be an early rise to get the driveway done.
English

@EddieSheerr Usually go out when I get your alerts but i think I’ll take my chances in the morning
English

Another hour or two of snow in the Metro before the rain change. Feel free to clear it now and have less slop to deal with in the morning. Not gonna send out a shovel alert in the app because it’s a bit late. #NLwx
English

@EddieSheerr Thanks for the heads up driveway done, wasn’t too bad cutting through with the snowblower
English

Snow is starting to mix with ice pellets in the Metro area. Now is a good time to clear your driveway before the rain moves in! #nlwx

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!

The photo attached to this post was taken by Brandon Keough early this morning (June 17, 2025) in Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador. It captures a beautiful start to the day—and, for me, it also marks the beginning of a new chapter for both myself and my family.
Last night, at the end of the NTV Evening News Hour, I officially announced that my time at NTV is coming to a close. My final day on-air will be this Friday, June 20, 2025.
I've spent nearly 12 years working for and with NTV, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given, and for the life I’ve built here in a place I’m proud to call home—Newfoundland and Labrador. If the station hadn’t taken a chance on me, and I hadn’t taken a chance on this rock—and this station—out in the North Atlantic, my life would look very different.
This decision was not an easy one—but it was mine to make. There’s a lot in my life right now that needs more of my time and attention, especially my family.
To be clear: the Sheerrs aren’t leaving Newfoundland and Labrador. We’re staying right here. I remain—and will always be—a proud (adopted) Newfoundlander and Labradorian.
I’ll be sharing more details about what’s next in the weeks to come. For now, thank you—from the bottom of my heart—for welcoming me into your homes each night and for following along on social media, through the ups and downs, over the past 12 years.
A more formal announcement, with many thank yous (and probably a few tears), will come during Friday night’s broadcast. Until then, I’ll see you this evening on NTV starting at 5:30 PM.
Have a great day!
Eddie
